Title: Wheel Spacers... Good or bad?
Post by: 99Trackerconv on March 01, 2004, 08:33:25 AM
I was talking to a friend at work about having trouble finding rims that fit.
He said he had the same problem with his truck. So he talked to the tire place and got wheel spacers and FWD rims. I haven't seen his truck but do you think it would work? Is it safe?

I have wheel spacer's from RoadlessGear on my 03 with standard 15inch rims and they work fine. I have had the truck offraod and have put almost 8,000 miles on it with no problems. Plus it widens the vechicle track. Go with the 1 inch spacers and a 15x7 rim my pic has them on it is small but you can see it.

Here is my 03 with 2inch coil spacer in front with 237/75/15 waiting on the rear spacer's right now.

I'm tunning Tril Tough's 1 1/4" spacers on my X-90. I drive 1000 miles a week in it and they have given me no problems.

Standog, it does improve the looks, but now you need some fender flares. Just something else to buy, right?

Depends on where you live. Where my Zuki is registaed they are not required. It does get dirty fast though. The wheels are Unique wheels I believe. Coast like 30 buck each.

Here is a before and after pic.

What difference can you not see? One has stock 16inch wheels the other has 15inch with a much larger tire. In the second pic it also has the 2inch coil spacer in.

Standog, I think I understand what lucszuk means, but I think the main problem is just how the Zuki happens to be sitting in the two pictures. I like the wheels and bigger tires. The reason I mentioned fender flares is that I think they look better than the bare fenderwell openings, at least  on the earlier Trackicks like mine. I would like some mild flares, even though I don't have big enough tires to need them. I would also like some wheels like yours. I bought some tires recently and the store (Big O) said they can get wider steel wheels that fit, but I wasn't sure I trusted them.

Did you have to do any bumper triming with the spacers? With the 1 1/4" my tires barely hit my bumper and I had to trim it back a little. I was going to go with the 1" but they were out of stock.

I had to trim the inside front before I but the coil spacer's on. I also had to push up the lip in the back to keep from cutting the tire. Also to clarify I put the wrong tire size down. I have 225/75 not 235. I was going to put 235 on but they were way to big for the stack Vitara.

Ok now I see what you are saying. I will take a frontal pic so you can see. There is quite a difference.

One thing you may need to do is check with your state inspection regulations (if your state/country has them). I know how the inspection Nazi's in New Jersey are, and they are not legal here as well as driveline spacers. They may not be legal in your area and it might be worth checking on before you buy them. I would hate to buy something for mine and not be able to use them. :-/

Good point. They say that you connot have them in Mass either. Found out trying to get a new one for one the tire shop screwed up. I don't have to register mine here so I never thought about it.  How close do they look for the inspection? Unless you knew they were there I don't think they could tell with out taking the wheel off. Here is my Zuki with a 1inch spacer with 15x7rims and 225/75 tires. Stock tires were all they way in the wheel wells.

FYI, i got a set of 1" 5.5 spacers from roadlessgear a few months ago though i have yet to put them on.  then last week i called to get the other set and they tell me that they don't stock the 1" ones anymore, though they did offer to get me the 1 1/2" ones for the same price...
so i just ordered them from Spidertrax, they are the people who make them for roadless anyway... but they charge abour 10% more...why?  but the guys at Spider are real cool and easy to deal with..
