Title: complications
Post by: weaver on May 17, 2005, 07:09:44 AM
so as i read and everybody very nicely responds to all  of my and others questions,, i start to notice that when you do a lift, you have to address the bumpers, the gastank then needs lifted which means you cut off the vapor separaters, then you may need catback exhaust with K|removethispart|@N filters, etc ,, etc...           im not trying to sound like im crying,,,,,,,,,,            its just i dont know exactly what im doing and what im getting into......

but i dont want to keep it stock because i love your photos

so confused............................. ;D

Know what you mean, but people on here lik zig / wild and others have som narly trail rigs,  dont know if they drive them every day, but presume they do not. For me i want a bit more agressive wheels, snorkel, and a lift so i dont drownd it out, i like crossing mudholes - rivers to get back to that perfect fishing hole, but i also want to keep close to stock mileage.  Cause i drive it every day.

anyway what do you want out of the rig, they are perfectly good off road stock, just not as good as they could be.

Depends on how agressively it's driven.
75-65mph on the highway, it gets about 18mpg on average.
55-45 it gets almost 20mpg.
around town ~16mpg

You should see my 8 year old daughter get in this thing.
She climbs up the rim, on the tire, over to the rock sliders and then in the truck.

Yeah my wife drives the 84 Sub as a daily driver,  she only has to drive around in town, and it is funny to watch our 4year old get into the thing the dorjams are around 39" off of the ground i mean she can almost walk clean under the truck, but she has found a way to climb in all by her self uses the seatbelt  as rope.  ;D. our cam is broke but i will get pics up here.

Yep.  Lifts is difficult...

As one poster pointed out, it kind of depends on what your goal is.

Body lifting addresses the problem of installing larger tires, yet does not completely address body/frame clearances.  You still have an unmodified suspension that is expecting normal sized tires and does not deal with rubbing caused by reduced steering clearances.  The unmodified suspension also has the same flex travel.

There are a number of articles describing body lifts on the Internet on the subject.

Information can often be found at vendor sites (Calmini.com comes to mind) and at places like here at Zukiworld.com's article archive, Izook.com Tech sections and Offroad.com tech sections.  I am sure that there other places that I have missed.

My familiarity for the TracKick is limited as I am just getting into it from the Samurai side (which is different!).

What I know is this:

There are a number of components that cross from the frame to the body besides the actual mounts themselves that are affected depending on the amount of body lift that you are applying.  Brake lines, fuel lines (both to the engine and the filler cap), electrical and transmission/transfer case.  And, if you have an automatic transmission, it's controls are handled differently than a manual transmission -- cable instead of shifter.

Less than two inches of body lift, fewer of the above need radical modification. Greater than 2 inches more mods.

Good luck!

I just wanted to clerify that Wild does drive his everyday. Zig might not everyday but he didnt get 280000 miles on it trailriding.  ::) Zig drove his from Tenn to Moab UT wheeled the pee out of it and drove back home. Wild drove from southern Cal to Moab 2 years ago, wheeled  to pee, and again drove home. Mine is also driven every day. I wouldnt have it any other way.

lol i can see that ppl  drive them every day ok, i know you all drove them to meats, it is just as with alot of trail rigs dont get driven everyday, however that is because alot of them are not llegal.  so anyof you out there what is the better way to conserve gassmialage? i drive 40 miles a day to work and them abot 20 a day on top of that.  i got it for a toy but turns out it get better mileage then my ricer "go figure"  so  the ricer sits in the driveway and collects dust "88 Acura Legend 2dr 5sp forced air intake and exhoust 179HP 183 torque", "well when I want to drive really fast ... you all get the picture"  and sometimes my wife drives it but usualy she drive the pavement princess.
