I've got an 88.5 with a 92 EFI in it. I installed the EFI a couple months ago and it runs great on the road, but it is running rich, especially at idle. There is visible black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. What adjustments can be made? The timing is 10 degrees BTDC, the warmed up idle is right |removethispart|@ 1000 rpm. I have the mega flow from Rocky Road with the K&N as well. When I put on the mega flow, I also put a breather on the valve cover and there was smoke coming out of the breather. It wasn't a lot, but it was definately there. I removed the breather and reattached the hose. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Perhaps a new O2 sensor will do the trick.
It calculates the fuel/air mix according to the exhaust levels.
If yours is malfunctioning it may be the reason behind the rich exhaust.

Check your coolant temp sensor.

And if those don't work try checking the fuel pressure.  If you have too high a pressure it's possible to get to much gas.
Just a thought.

Any luck finding your problem? Mine is doing the same thing!! 86 with 93 8valve running rich at idle and alittle on the road! Just wondering if you made any progress?

The MAP and the O2 sensors are the major inputs, then look at the coolant temp sensor and finally
the air temp sensor, throttle position on an 8v is more of a switch to tell the computer when the throttle
is pressed.
Good Luck

HELP!!
Ive replaced my O2 sensor the Air intake sensor and the temp sensor! And it's now running richer then before? I also put on a bigger fuel return line to the tank! If i start it from cold it runs fine then after about 30sec it drops down and surges up about 5-6 times! It almost falls on it face? Then it seems to idle fine? I tried disc the O2 when it is running and it makes no change? If i plug the O2 back in and Disc the map sensor it will almost die unless i keep it reved up. But then it seems to run better and no miss but it will die if i let go of the throttle. is my map sensor gone? Sorry im kinda new to all this its an 86 sammy with a 93 1.6EFI swap if that helps??

I had trouble with a map line coming off, make sure the line is good
and not plugged or cracked.
-
My line is new! No blockage!! I replaced my TPS and the EGR and that did nothing. So im thinking its the MAP????
-
Have you got a check engine light wired in?
-
Yes.. But it's not giving any codes except for #12
-
silly question but i've overlooked it before,
map sensor is plugged into the right place on the inlet manifold? needs raw pulse and if its plugged into a damper it wont read properly
-
So ive replaced all my sensors and still have not found my problem?Could it be my computer? I get the #12 code but im not sure if thats enough to tell me thats its ok? It starts and runs fine until i step on the gas and then it misses and at 1800rpm itjumps around and drops to 1200rpm and back up to 1800rpm for as long as i hold it there.. Its running really rich!!

Test the vacuum signal at the MAP, I really think this is the MAP
telling the computer that ur at WOT and running you rich
