I've read that you just replace the front rotor and caliper from a 4dr.
The question is, when you replace the caliper, do you also replace the bracket that the caliper slides on??
-
Yes, get it all from the knuckle out, backing plates
are not required as the 2 doors will bend with a big
Crescent wrench for a custom fit, this is a great mod,
2 door Track/Kicks should have been sent with these
from the begining.

Question about the back 10" brakes, is the brake hardware the same? adjusters, springs, wheel cylinders, etc? If so could i just buy backing plates, shoes and drums?
-
That would be rear brakes ::) But yes! ;D

;D Cool, now i will buy new backing plates from Suzuki and get some drums off ebay, shoes from autozone.

Not sure about that I know that there were 2 different size drums on the SWB models sold over here, pre 1994 and 94 on, though the fixings look similar.

Im positive. Ive done it several times. As long as you stay with the same year they interchange. Im not sure if the cutoff is 94 or 95. Pre 94 one type (95?) 96 up is another.

From what I've seen, the only 4door front brakes that would be beneficial, would be using the sport front brakes as they are larger. The piston in the caliper on the 2 and 4 door calipers are the same, as is the rotor size, the only plus is the vented rotor feature. Sports would provide more stopping power for the fronts.
As for the rears, just use the backing plates, drums and shoes from the 4 door and all the other junk from the 2 door, it's a bolt on! The only thing you need to remember is, the sport rears won't work unless you use the sport rear end, the abs sensors are on the end of the axle shafts outboard of the bearings, it makes the shafts longer. Stay in the same year frame for your trackick for the rear brakes, unless you plan on going flanged axles, 96-98.

I'd have to disagree ID LWB, the 4 door calipers
I got looked the same but the pistons are definitely
bigger, and there is a very pronounced difference in
stopping power, this might be because these came
from a 16V 4 door I don't know, but I know it's helped
get these 33s stopped much better.
-
I'm not sure whether or not the calipers you found were off a sport or not, but comparing the 95 calipers off Heathers 16v 4 door with sammy calipers, the piston size looks the same to me. The only diff that I found between the two is the location of the bleed valve and where the hose attaches. There might be a difference in pruduction dates or whether or not it was a track, or a kick.
I know the 2 door calipers are the same dimensions as the sammy, except the mounting and hose and bleed are different, they even take the same rotor.
The European sammy calipers even mount the same, with the exception of the clocking position. I know, I own a Spanish built lwb, I think that counts, but I could be wrong! ;D ;D
-
Aren't the front rotors off a 4dr larger in diameter? Even if the piston is the same size the larger diameter will give better leverage for stopping power, compaired to the same caliper than a smaller dia. rotor would.
Of course a bigger piston would also be nice.
-
Nope, the rotor is the same size on a 4 door, just vented. The 2 door is exactly the same rotor, used one on a sammy once to replace a cracked wore out rotor.
-
Rotors are the same Dia. 4 door have vents.
No it was a standard 4 door, not a sport. 96' I think
-
Well vents are just for cooling, so does that mean the caliper pistons are bigger?
-
mine are, you could use either rotor
I think, but why, vents are mo betta
-
Maybe the reason the brakes worked better on yours was because the brakes that you replaced were worn or glazed. That could make a huge difference. From the comparison that I did with the sammy calipers, the piston size is exactly the same. Even the pad size is the same.
-
I might get a chance to drop in those 5.83s
before Friday when we leave, if I do I'll get
a comparison photo, not the piston out but
the housing size from outside, I'd swear the
new ones I got are bigger, at least the bulge
in the caliper looked bigger.
-
I received my LWB front calipers a couple of days ago. Piston diameter measures 53.5mm +/- a bit of rust, FSM says 48.1mm for stock swb.

Hi team,
The 4 doors have slightly larger pistons, the calipers are wider ( to compensate for a wider disk ). The disk diameter is the same from memory. The brake booster is also larger.
Here in NZ we get a factory SWB V6, fitted with the BIG brake set up and they stop real good.
I have fitted the vented set up onto Zeuszuki and it all bolted onto Sammie mounts Ok. The Kick calipers have the bleed nipples in a different place so I bleed them off the mounts (used a remote disk for the pads to bite into ). The Kick calipers are also alloy and not cast like the Sammies. The rears - well there is another story in itself ;)

When I compared the calipers from Silver(90 2 door) with the calipers from the kick(92 4 door) the kick's calipers are most definately larger in the body and have a wider spread. I can compare the pistons thursday when I pull one...
