Title: Getting the inside wet
Post by: keith on February 18, 2004, 04:39:12 AM
This summer I may either use a bikini top or no top the whole summer.  If the inside gets rained on will it hurt anything?  Will that make the floorboards rust out?

I would advise to remove the carpet so it does not hold the water when it rains, and try to keep it (water) off of the dash componets. I only run a bikini all summer and pull the floor drain plugs when it is going to sit in the rain. The floors will dry out (with no carpet) quicker than the seats.

Where are the floor drain plugs?  Does the floor get really hot without the carpet?

It can get fairly hot during the day but not bad. The drain plugs are in the floor pan directly under the drivers and passengers feet. If you pull the carpet you cant miss them.

I know a guy that runs without carpet. He has the plugs pulled also. He has some big rubber mats on the floor. He just pulls them up and drains out the water. The reason for the mats is for noise reduction and to look little better.

If you going to do any deep water, don't forget to put them back in.

I have a friend (with a jeep) that keep forgetting to put the plugs back in and keeps flooding the insides in deep mud holes.

I plan on ripping all the carpet out of my tracker this spring.  Then I'm gonna use a spray on truck bed liner and coat all the floor boards and whatnot.

That’s probably your best bet for rubber replacement.

i know all too well about pulling all the carpet and running with the drain plugs out, little warning when wheeling and you decide to hit a hole with water in it be prepared to see a geyser shoot out of the holes...i saw the passenger side hit the roof and the drivers side shot right up my pants :D it was the funniest thing it looked like i wet my pants something fierce :-[, but anyways just look out for old faithful under your feet if you run without your drain plugs.   shane.

if you leave the carpets in and they are wet .. then they will start to stink really bad ... best to pull them out now.
mine have been out for over a year now. it also helps with cleaning the floor as i pull the drain plugs and wash the floor out with a hose pipe. then use an old towel to dry off. leave the plugs out for a while to stop the windows misting up and its ready for the next mud hole. ;)

Pull the carpet and use the urethane bed liner material. Your feet will get traction and it stops any rust because oxygen can not get thru and it seals the body up. I am going to spray mine completely inside and out when I remove the body in a couple of weeks.

Drain plugs are for girls ;D Wear some old shoes and enjoy the mud bath. Hell, some people pay big money at health spas for a mud bath, you could turn the Zuk into a mobile spa ;D

I've pulled the carpet out of mine about a year ago also.  The floorboard by the tranny gets pretty warm, but I just bought some cheap rubber floor mats and threw them in.  Just like somebody else said.  When you get water & crap in there just pick up your mats, pull the plugs, and hose down if necessary.
