Title: Holy rattling batman!

How do I tighten the latch on my backdoor?

The thing rattles like no tomorrow, and it's insane on the washboards.

I'm going wheeling on Sunday and I'm hoping that I can actually listen to my music instead of the rattling door.  :P

You loosen the mounting bolts on the little steel loop it engages (I don't know what it's called - that little steel loop that the door latches on), then you move the loop thing closer to the interior of the vehicle, and re-tighten the bolts (well, really, they're big honking phillips screws, if I remember right).

EDIT:  Let me guess - you have a full sized spare hung on your tailgate?  Make sure you haven't broken the weld on one side of the tire carrier!  I did.  Then I got the Calmini rear swing-arm bumper.

This latch is a two stage thing too, like a door,
so make sure it's not too tight or it will do the
same thing, push it closed slowly and listen for
the clicks of the catch, if you hear 1 it's too tight,
if you hear 2 it's too loose, move the striker the
direction that will make it set right, and then it
will be quiet.  ;)

Ya I finally threw a fullsize spare on last week but the back door has always rattled.

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully I'll be rattle free by tomorrow.  ;D

:) me too but what I did was turn the rubber stop out as far as it could go. that help alot, but it still rattles a bit.

Be sure you rattling guys read and understand what wildgoody said. He's exactly right. Everyone Ive met with this problem has had the rubber knob turned too far and the door only gets the first click. Its not fully latched but it looks like it is.

What size is your spare?  I just put a 30" spare on mine today.  I was wondering if it would hold.. ???

I've had a 32x11.5 MTR on mine now for 2 - 3 years on the stock mount and the bumper cut for the tire.  So far so good.  

But I have a bumper on order myself.  That thing is way heavy on that rear door.
