What are the drawbacks for not running a muffler?
-
loss of power maybe :-/
but a really good sound :)
-
Having to be towed out of the woods and a really big ticket and possibly paying for a large forrest fire in the millions of dollars and a few lost houses and people and pets, other than that, go for it!
-
Its a very wicked sound hehe.
I love the double take when people are like "is that a geo?"
I dont understand mrfuelish...
Is it a fire hazard to not run a muffler?
-
Yep you have to have either a muffler (approved) or a spark arester no glass packs or a streight through type for off road, the rangers around here carry a coat hanger if it goes through you get towed out, alot of guys weld washers in a circle inside the pipe, even in the sand in california you will get a ticket. just cheaper to get a good muffler that flows good and have a good guard on your cat if you have one.

When I got my 2-door in 2002, I didn't have time to put the header on, before I went to Moab, so I just brought it along, and changed it in Slick Rock Campground. Well, once I had the header on, I just couldn't resist firing her up, before I reconnected the cat. Sounded like a pissed-off bumblebee... Humorous! Now I need to put something on it other than the stock cat & muffler that's still on it. Spidertrax, on their competition buggy, run some kind of ricer muffler on their 1.6L 16 valve engine.

ive got a glass packd on mine, sure am happy the rangers dont care

As a born and raised Canadian I can honestly tell you that I've never seen a "mounty" outside of a parade.
But I should suspect that you think we live in Igloo's and ride dog sleds to work every morning too, EH?
Here's a picture of my Igloo and my Dog sled.  :-*
