Title: best combination of LSD/lockers
Post by: explosivo on February 23, 2004, 05:24:24 AM
what's the best combiniation of LSD and/or lockers for a '91 tracker that'll be encountering mostly trails/mud and snow?

LSD front/lockers back
open front/lockers back

what is your opinion on the matter?

ARB air lockers front & rear.  Bring your wallet.

lsd's are not cheap either, but if you have to have one go loc-rite rear and lsd front, let the rear do the work for ya !

I'd vote for lockers front and rear, ARB's are nice but not necessary, and would not get the Limited slip package for the front or rear. I'd suggest upgrading your front end to 26 spline package and get a steel axle housing [Searching on those two topics will get you specifics] no matter what set up you choose.

Good Luck,  -Eric

Well, Eric, If you're not going LSD, and you think ARB's are unnecessary, what the heck is left?  With ARB's, I know exactly when my diffs are locked, and when they are open, and I choose when that is.  I agree on the steel and 26 spline, though.

I like the plain ol' lockers. They work just dandy for me. ARB's are nice but then you have added another system to service (air compressor) and I've done limited slip and do not like the way it performs on the trail.

FWIW I run an ARB up front and a Lockrite in the rear of my green Sidekick. I'm thinking that the rear traction device will be dictated by aftermarket axle choices in the future.
