Title: snorkel question...
Post by: explosivo on February 18, 2004, 03:54:34 PM
ive seen a few pics of homemade snorkels with open-element filters on top... are these the only filters or do they go to the stock airbox or is that the only filter?

i use a K&N filter on the top of my stainless steel pipe, it goes through the wing and feeds straight onto the alloy feed pipe for the injection system.
i tend to use a detergent on the filter every couple of weeks and allow it to dry ... then coat with a light oil and it has been fine... plus if you use the stainless steel tube and the K&N filter, the induction roar is superb.
samples of which can be heard on the videos on my site.

What's that trophy on the front? I was thinking deer antlers at first but it looks sort of mechanical, wait sort of like drift wood... Just curious.

the only problems i have driving in the rain are when the bottom of the windows are level with the  mud and i have to get out to sort the winch out .... hee hee

no seriously
i have no problems with the rain on the exposed filter
it works great .. just keep cleaning them every few weeks

I've run K&Ns on a lot of bikes and never had a problem. I've run similar filters made by other manufacturers and had no end of problems in the rain. Even oiled they would absorb water and I'd have to take them off

has anyone put a snorkel on a new vitara? I have an 03 and can't find anything. Any custom build tips would be great.
