I've been loking for a new engine for the old Sammy the 1.3 just aint cuttin it anymore, I was thinking of trying to swap a new V-6 out of the XL7 or another new Suzuki trucks. Well has anyone thought about it or done this swap. Be some mean genuine suzuki power. The 2.5 puts out like 165 or somthing like that so any any helpfull info on the subject would be nice.

Hey Joe,
have a look here ;) http://www.zukiworld.com/cgi/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=suzuki_talk;action=display;num=1118099290 It's for a kick, but..... also you might want to try the search function (make sure you set it up right so it'll search further back than only a week) there are some threads out here on engine swaps, don't know about a V6 though..... ;)
-
The more I turn this idea over in my head, the more I like it... More than double the power of my stock 1.6L (8v) and not a whole lot heavier. :)

One problem you will face is the heighth of the motor. It is really tall and won't fit in a Samurai unless you have a suspension AND body lift.... OR maybe a huge hood scoop. ;)

Go for the 2.0L
From looking at some of the websites there are kits for the Sam........127-135hp

Yeah thanks for the input guys, It would be awsome to get the engine but my mom hates my Sammy, and she wants to buy me somthing else to drive since its so "unsafe". So I dont know what will happen with my Zuki in the comming months, maybe it'll become my full time toy, if so I'll just keep the 1.3 b/c it's fine offroad it just dont cut it on the freeway. So untill I get it figured out I'll just drool over the V-6 power and see what happens.

Not to pirate the thread or anything but does anyone have the numbers about the weight difference between a 2.7 or2.5 V-6 and the 1.6 L?
My motor's in great shape, but like many others, just a little dreaming.
According to my wife, If I dream about it, I end up planning it, and next thing she knows I'm asking money to do it.
She's takes care of the budget, the only reason there isn't all toys and no food in the house.

Suzuki's must be like the puzzles in the toy store( box says for ages 6 and up) I havent had a convesation about what I drive with my mother in 10 years but I find myself thinking about and asking the same questions as JOE.
Or it's like my wife says they look bigger but all men no matter what age think they're 17
That's right my football jacket still fits honey ;D ;D ;D
Anyways to actually add something to this thread, has anybody thought about a rotary swap? (up to 200hp|removethispart|@8000 rpm)

4.0 ford v6 fits very nice. cheap and somewhat easy swap in a samurai. motor is fairly light for a v6, and has 155hp.

did it bolt up to the sammy gearbox? or the kick gearbox
anydetails ?

The Ford 4.0 is almost assuredly going to be a fuck of a lot heavier than a GV 2.5L or XL7 2.7L ;)

while I will admit, i don't know for sure the weight of the 4.0, it is in the same engine family as the ford 2.8, and I know the ford 2.8 weighs in at 305lbs. that really isn't to bad for a v6. i have no idea what a 2.5 or 2.7 weighs, but i would be interested in facts instead opionions from people who really don't have a clue and have to use profanity to get their point across.
couple of pictures:

trany to tcase jackshaft, that is a short shaft c4 and a stock zuki tcase.

installation is pretty straight forward. need to make all the mounts, and bolt it in. widen the trany tunnell. install an electric fuel pump, take the wiring harness out of the doner vehicall, and splice, what i believe was a about 3-4 wires. it is pretty self explanintory once you start working on it.
the swap is really pretty cheap, no expensive parts needed, everthing can be found in the junk yard. i would love to have a suzuki v6 in my samurai, but i can only imagine the cost of the motor alone would make it expensive. i have been able to find wrecked exlporers/rangers that run good for less than $500. also save a bit of money because with a v6 you don't need to run crazey low gearing(which ever v6 you use).
i have run the ford 2.8 for 3+ years and used all stock gearing and 33x12.50 swampers. i am a mudder though, and not a rock crawler(no rocks in iowa).

That hurts :( ;D
According to Eric, his kick only weighs 75lbs more with a 2.7L V6 than a similarly equipped Sidekick with the 1.6L... so the XL7 V6 is definately a very light engine.
Is that better? No fucking profanity that time ;)

FWIW
Think about the 2.0l Suzuki L-4
- Easier to install (bolts to trans)
- Tons lighter (75lbs is alot in a 2000lb vehicle)
- 127-135hp stock....let alone playing with it.
I would almost bet that a 2.0L would out do the 4.0L Ford (lighter, getting only 15-20hp less) based on power to weight.

The Ford's gonna outdo it in torque, which is going to make more of a difference offroad.

I won't argue that torque is what you need off road, but the lighter weight and good t/c gears are goona get you the best balance of worlds....
- Easier swap
- Similar power
- Less weight
- All Suzuki

how about cost? i am all for keeping suzuki, but i don't have lots of money to spend.
-
If it bolts right up to a 'kick trans, cost would be pretty low, considering all you'd need is an adapter, motor mounts, and a wiring harness/computer to stick it in a Sammy. Assuming that the engine itself isn't too much from a salvage yard.
-
The swap isn't bad, I'm building the parts right now to do my wifes 4dr
- Custom flywheel (1.6 modified to fit 2.0L, done)
- Custom motor mounts (still working on it)
- Wiring harness mods (still working on it)
I'm going to use everything else from the 1.6 thats already in the 4dr (Rad etc)
I've got a thread going on it I just haven't had time to do much more lately. Basically I'm getting all the parts ready and bugs worked out before I take her 4dr off the road to do the install.

the v6 has that nice sound , the install looks good.
if the 2.0l bolts up to the kick gearbox thats handy, i take it you use the 1.6 fly wheel and clutch ?
-
I will use the 1.6 flywheel modified, centerforce or similar clutch for the 1.6

Yes it does ;), I would luv to here what a flow master would sound like on mine.
