T-case in neutral, Trans in neutral, Hubs unlocked

Actually, I believe that the main transmission must be left in gear to prevent it from spinning with out lubrication. The transfer must be in nuetral and the hubs unlocked.

T-case neutral

transmission in 2ed gear

turn key to on then to off BUT DO NOT REMOVE IT, this leaves the steering wheel unlocked and accesories off.

This is the best suggestion thus far --- you forgot that if you're doing the 2nd gear thing - DO NOT EXHEED 45MPH!

Whoever said to put it all in neutral... nooooooo

If you're going anywhere and want to go more than 45MPH while towing it -- taking the 5minutes to detach your driveshafts and do it right!

Tranny can't turn on a Man trans even in Neutral,
clutch is preventing it, also man Trans is lubbed
through the gears spinning and picking up oil.

However if the T-case or the Trans got bumped into
gear and the Trans was in say 2nd, you might have
a meltdown of your own  ;)

Just somthing to think about

I've got many thousand miles flat towing my Tracker.  It's a stick.

I've always put both the trans and t-case in neutral.  Never had a problem.

Like wildgoody said:  "Trans is lubbed through the gears spinning".

If I plan on wheeling it hard I'll try to find a trailer incase I brake something and can't tow it back.  Would suck to be in another state and have that happen.

Hoping to buy one this spring.  ;D

While I'm thinking about it I thought I'd share this tragic story.
A while back I posted the same question on towing a 90 track. Any how some might remember the comment I made about my brother having problems towing his track on a tow dollie and being bullheaded (gonna do it my way ...Well this friday the phone rings it's my bro. "Can you bring your truck and a two strap and get me?" Transmission dropped all but the 4th gear and the transfer is also gone. Soooo God help me I took my heep pickup and towed him home. (head hangs in shame)..So now his toy sits in the garage awating new trans/transfer. Moral of the story... when in doubt, PULL that shaft!

not the easiest way but the safest is probably to drop the rear shaft and leave hubs un-locked,I work for a tow company part time and the only way we can tow a rear drive or 4wd truck is to drop the rear shaft

Now if only we could come up with lockouts for the rear?  ::)

Hows that coming wildgoody ???

Waiting for some spindles from the front
of a Track/Kick, after that it will be on it's
way. I've been looking at some Nissan
Maxima rear brakes, nice big disks with the
E-brake in the caliper, I think they are more
available than Saturn Rear Disks, that and
all the Saturns I found were Drums or stripped
of their rear disk hardware  >:(

Also the Maxima rears are Tokico which is
Zuki native parts, I don't think I'll have any
rejection issues with native parts  ;)
