Help - Can someone tell me the weight of a 1.3 engine - it will be complete minus the flywheel, and air intate system.
I am selling on e-bay and everyone is asking me about freight. I live in Bend, Oregon. Probley will use Forward Air.
Thanks in advance,
Captain Jack

I had an engine shipped from Cali and it came through by Fed Ex because they have the highest weight to rate ratio. I think it was around 100lbs. Check there website.

A 1.3 only weighs 100lbs????
I sent a chevy block, crank, rods, pistons and flywheel from Indiana to Alabama by truck freight and it was over $300. I put it on a skid and banded it down and wrapped it in plastic. Sit your motor on a bathroom weight scale and add a bit of weight for the skid.

Your first problem was that it was a V-8. Second it was cast iron. Your third problem was truck frieght. Maybe you don't realize it but the sami 1.3 is an aluminum block and cylinder head and only 4 cylinders. My engine was mounted to a pallet and covered in a cardboard box. And for shipping by a frieght company it will always cost more on bigger items. Fed Ex has one of the highest weight limit and thats why the shipper of my engine went with them. He was able to ship me valve cover to oil pan plus a balanced flywheel in the same box. I hope this helps with your disbelief.
One thing you should do is mark the box THIS WAY UP^. They seemed to forget the pallet is down.

CPT. I did a research for you. FedEx Ground is what you want as far as being the cheapest. I supplied a link for the description of freight pakaging. http://www.fedex.com/us/services/ground/packaging/
My engine package may have been slightly over 100lbs but obviously under 150lbs.
(the box did have a complete engine minus intake, flywheel, gasket kit, centerforce clutch disc and plate)

Yeah I realize its a 4banger but 100 lbs just sounded really light for a complete motor. I cant remember how much the pallet I shipped weighed but nobody would touch it except truck freight. I believe you about Fed Ex, dont get me wrong I was just wondering about the weight of a motor.

No prob. Check the link I put up. That should show you atleast it's not over 150lbs. Trust me these things are light as heck with no alternator, intake, exhaust manifold, and Samurai attached. Think about it, half of a v-8 made from aluminium that has a smaller bore and stroke <150lbs..
