Title: 4 door Kick brakes on a 2 door Kick?
Post by: ksa421 on January 26, 2004, 09:38:25 AM
Does anyone know if the brakes off of a 4 door Kick will fit on a 2 door kick? Will the just bolt right on? ??? Thanks

It's supost to be an easy swap.  I guess a lot of people will take the front rotor and use it on the rear and then get 4 door rotors and calipers and just bolt them on.

I'm trying it this spring.

I think what he was asking is will the fronts fit the front and will  the rears fit the rear kinda thing 8) he found a 4 door parts rig.

Do it !! You will not be disappointed.
Grab all the parts
backing plate
rotor
caliper
bracket caliper bolts to
pads
hoses for spares

I only did the front, rear is stock 2 door
Great mod, Do it  ;D

Its as easy as you would think. Do it. I love it. I have front 4 doors calipers and rotors on mine. I had rears also until I did the rear disc swap.

Hey if the 4 door has bigger brakes does it also have an uprated mastercylinder?

No. The pistion and wheel cylinders are still the same volume. Just the discs and drums got larger.

I beg to differ  :o , the piston in the caliper
appears to be larger, at least from the outside,
than the 2 door caliper, I didn't take mine apart
as they worked fine so I'm not 100% on this.

I didnt measure the two but I remember thinking that they looked like they were the same size. I am 100% positive that the wheel cylinders are the same though.

So to do the backs you just get the shoes
and drums/hardware and enjoy
:)

I remember them looking the same until I
put them next to each other, the 4 door looks
like the 2 door on steroids  ;D  similar in
appearance but larger over all

Nope, when I did the swap I accidentaly pumped the break pedal without the rr drum on and blew the cylinder. :-[ I used the cylinder from my 2 door backing plate cause it was laying there. It was definately the same.

There is so much stuff.  Just think how simple these rigs are and they still have so much stuff. I couldnt imagine doing this to something like a cadilac.

I'm happy and sad for you,
Happy the Trucklet was prepped
right, and you'll have none of that crappy
overspray on the trim and latches and stuff.

And I'm sad to hear your 21 Day program isn't
working, hasn't it been about 21 days since she's
been gone ??  and your still suffering.

I'm sorry to say I think you are a hopless zukaholic,
and there is no cure for you, your stuck with the rest
of us, so you'll just have to put up with us and this
board for the rest of your life.

(like that's a bad thing  ;D )

Get a quart and bleed all the old
stuff out from all the lines and cylinders.
DOT 3 or 4  don't get 5 as it's not compatable
with regular fluid without a complete flush of
all the old fluid from the system.

KSA,
If you have your new stuff there when you remove the old you can do it without loosing much. Just unscrew one break from the line at a time and replace it with the new. After bleeding the breaks good, you will be good to go ;D

Wild,
See, I waited 10 minutes :P

Mike, ;D I could not help myself :P Give us some pics when you ger her back.

I heard after a while it can get a little water in it and makes it not so good. Sorry I dont remeber the details of it.

brake fluid does absorb water and in cast iron housings that's not good this is basicly what leads to stuck caliper and wheels cyls
For thisd reason
some european makers actualy have you change the brake fluid as scheduled maintence.

BTW dot 5 fluid is silicone based and will not absorb water but it's not compatible with dot 3or 4 and is expencive.

Dot 3 is the basic brake fluid.   Dot 4 is an upgrade with a higher boiling point AND it doesn't absorb water as well as dot 3
I use dot 4 in all my stuf cuz i like upgrades but I am not made of $$$$$4
