AM I THINKING WORNG MY 5 SPEED HAS 5.12 ON IT. IF I PUT 4.62. AND LET'S SAY AT 70 MPH THE RPM'S ARE 3000. WILL THE 4.62 MAKE THE RPM MORE OR LESS...THANKS LES

Les, you DO NOT want to put those 4.62 gears in your 5spd if you plan on any kind of hwy driving...especially if you have larger than stock tires

You are thinking the wrong direction. You will need to look for either 5.62's (they are kinda hard to find tho) or buy some 5.83's from Calmini.

;)

Hey if you want the 4.63s i'll trade with you, straight up! lol Just kidding. IF you get some 5.83's and wanna get rid of your 5.13's i'll take them off your hands.

An easy way to think about it is the diff ratio
at 4.62 = 4.62 turns of the drive shaft to 1 turn
of the tire, the higher the #, the lower the gear
is and the faster the engine turns to get the
same speed.

5.12s in an auto trans is good for 31" tires and
is the same as stock tires with 4.62s

5.83 gives same ratio as stock with 32-33" tires

for more info go to the tire and gear calculator
I have on my site

The link is below the Warning sticker
4x4 calcs

Enjoy   :)

I have the stock 5:13's in my diffs and my engine revs perfectly fine on the high way. (running 31's)

But If you wana go any higher than 31" tires then I suggest you go for the 5:86 gears.

I like the 5.12s with my 33s.  It would be nice to have 5.83 when the truck is loaded and I have to get going uphill, but other than that, I hardly notice the difference.  Plus, It's like having an extra overdrive gear.  I still use it off the highway, get some decent mileage cruising at 50 mph.

With the auto I think 33's would be a bit much with the 5.12, but I really don't know. Just a thought

My thought is, if you have the three speed auto and 33s, you could use 5.38s and be perfect! What's that? Can't find any? Oh that's ok, I have a set for sale out of a 91 8v 4dr. Pm me if you are interested.

I haven't used 5th gear since I fitted the 33s and on a hill I often need to use 3rd to stop the speed dropping below 60mph (which is around 50 on the speedo). It really sucks.
