I Just wanted to post this in the general area for some new members
who might not know there is an adventure forrum here too.
Calling all wheelers, the 42nd Tierra Del Sol Safari run Mar 6&7 2004.
This has been going for more years than I've been alive, come
and be part of Four Wheel Drive History, these folks really go
all out to make this a good time for all, lots of prizes to be given
out, Tires, Winches, Rollcages, you name it they draw tickets and
give it. This is a family event and it's open to all 4WD vehicles from
mild to wild, all in all about 2500 vehicles show up and around 5000
people. They do require registration to go on the marked trails, and
it is less if payed in advance, vehicles must meet all safety requirements
but it's not too bad, mostly common sence stuff.
Here is a link to the safty stuff.

And a link to the prize sponsors from last year.

Take a look and come on out if you can, this will be my 3rd
year, and I'm looking forward to many to come.
If you have trouble viewing the pages with Netscape, try IE instead
until they get the viewing problem fixed.
UPDATE: Pre-Registration is $45 on site is $60
There are only 7 weeks left so get your rigs setup
and get registeered if you are going to attend.
The Pre-Registration forms are here:

Hey Wild, I should be there but Im trying to talk my wife into going but Its my 10th aniversary (spell check) on that friday the 5th. but I will still try ;D
-
Take her out, wine and dine her,
then show on Saturday Morning before 8
-
You guys stay in a tent there or What? how safe are the camp grounds from getting your tent run over?
-
There are established roads, you just have to find a spot
off the road and you have no worries, most have trailers
and motorhomes, so it is plenty obvious where camp is,
the biggest thing is camp away from the main road as
it gets really dusty with all the traffic, that and camp up
wind from the road so the dust blows away from you.
We motorhomed it the first year, camped last year.
if I got the $$ I might borrow the motorhome from
my mom and dad, it's just the thing gets like 5 MPG
comfortable tho, you can get a shower and cook in
style, pain is cleaning it out afterwards from all the dust.
-
do you go with a group? and do you have a motor home? and can you do most of the trails or are there some bad ones there?
-
I can do most trails, there were a few the firts year
that these guys all tried and dug such big holes
at the bottom I would of high centered so I couldn't
even get near it, Boneheads :P
Ya I borrow the folks MH if I got the $$ for gas
-
we have a small group of 5 or 6 people
that all go with the familys, I bring the Kids
they love it, the wife stays home, she don't
do dirt.
-
That sounds good! how far is this place from whittier,ca I guess they have it at the same place every year? I could prob. borrow a motor home from there and drive it to tds if I can afford the fuel, the price is going nut's here for no reason.
-
From Whittier I'd say 4 hours at normal
freeway speed, yes it's in the famous
"Truckhaven Hills" south of Salton City Ca.
take Highway 10 East into the Desert, then
Highway 86S Expressway until you get to
Salton City, a couple more miles S on 86
and a right turn, just follow the Heeps or
the dust clouds, LOL
-
Yea I just checked it out on yahoo it said like 6hrs 4min so that's 12 hours with a 460 in a motor home :-/ I fig about 75.00 in gas at 1.90 per how close am I? 166 mi. each way? I guess all in all that's still better than a motel, If I could find somebody to split the cost it would be even better. or I could finish building my rig a little more and do it next year 8) it would take me 16 hours just to get to whittier ::)
-
El cheapo gas stations here are about 1.65
or so, are you guys paying 1.90 now ???
Jeez, what a rip >:(
-
no were paying a dollar sixty seven and going up every day but the last time I went down the five it was over two bucks a gallon so ya never know? the heating oil is going nuts here also so I fired up the wood stove for the first time in twelve years last week and I just picked up another oil stove for the shop also but it has a wood stove so I should be ok! I might put it in the office out in the barn? still gatta fig. out what to do with the room? radio room? gym?
-
