My brother just bought a 90 track and is trying to tow it on a tow dollie. If he puts in on front first and outta gear the rear tires still lock and give him problems. If we roll if off the dollie the damn thing rolls fine, can push it all over the place. Today he tries to go home with it on the dollie rear first and outta gear/s the front tires don't wanna turn, anyone know what up with that?? I think he need to tow it from the front and remove the rear shaft....but what do i know I always drive my sami!

Get an owners manual if you can. The 97 Tracker I have says that 4WD with manual hubs can be towed with all four wheels down with the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in gear. If it has automatic hubs, it is recommended that it be towed on a dolly. First thing to do is make sure the transfer case is in neutral.
-
Yes I forgot to mention the auto free hubs...
we did put in on the dollie front first and transfer in N. but still no go on the tow. He just got bullheaded and said piss on it it's goin down the road!!
I hope he don't tear it up :'(

I'd suggest that he first see if the ds spins with one tire in the air and other on the ground, then the opposite when the t-case is in neutral. This will tell you at least which wheel is blocking the free-wheeling when you have the front on the dolley, tranny in gear, transfer case in neutral. Or maybe the rear diff has a problem, thus the locking. Only way to tell this is to remove the rear ds, hang in up tight with bungee cord to the frame, and rotate the axles.
I've never heard such a thing without the parking brake not engaged. Maybe it's frozen????

Yep, I have to agree. I can't think of what would cause these symptoms in a normally-operating car.

OUCH! MAN THAT MUST OF HURT.....A GOOD LESSON LEARNED FOR FUTURE REFFERANCE........IF THEY POST PICS. LET US KNOW......

Dang that would suck! That story brings up yet another question.....In this owners manual, it says Not to exceed 40 mph while towing the zuk on a dollie. Does that sound right? I mean how the heck would you pull it behind a camper or some other rig? That would take forever to get there.
-
I don't think my manual has that low a speed for towing with all 4 wheels down, but I don't remember what it said about using a dolly. That would definitely cause problems. Imagine towing on the interestate. I would probably ignore that and use any recommendations that came with the tow dolly. Does the dolly have brakes?
-
Yep it has brakes and the wheels that turn with the tow vehicle that keep the car in tow running straight.
-
I guess I can't really figure why the towing speed limit would be that low. If you towed with the rear wheels on the dolly and the hubs unlocked how would that be different from driving? Except that you would be going in reverse, of course.

I THINK ITS JUST ANOTHER ONE OF THERE SAFETY NETS FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES.......JUST LIKE THE TRAILERS YOU GET FROM UHAUL TO GO CROSS COUNTRY SAY TOP SPEED 45MPH
