Title: Kick rear discs
Post by: cj on January 20, 2004, 08:34:33 AM
I see Trail Tough www.trailtough.com list an Economy Rear Disc Brake Kit. Has anyone done this on a Kick?

"This basic kit includes the pieces necessary for the do-it-yourselfer to put Samurai front calipers and rotors on the rear of your Samurai OR Sidekick."

Sidekick
Item #ERD-401 Price $ 99.00

**Note - this kit makes NO provision for e-brake or proportioning.

I would be interested to hear of anyone's experiences with disk brake conversions for Trackicks, too. I think it would be advisable to have the brake proportioning valve as well as an emergency brake, so one of the kits that uses components from other vehicles would probably be better.

Ford Sierra (Probe?) calipers and Sammi discs

Whats the Sierra caliper size as it would be great to match up a suitable master cylinder. Maybe the Subaru or a RAV4 master cyl might work.

The Sierra calipers would allow an e-brake setup, yes?

Worst case on any rear disc conversion you can get Wilwood mechanically actuated calipers pretty cheap as long as your disk is pretty close to the thicknesses they work with.  You also would have to make provisions for the mounting bolts for them.

Yes thats why we chose them, well that and the fact that there are so many in the breakers yards they're pretty cheap. Size wise I don't recall, the piston diameter is pretty close to that of the Sammi though

Maybe i'm totally out of the loop, but why not Suzuki Swift GTi/GT rear disc calipers?
seems to make the most sense.

On to the brakes. I chose 99 Saturn SC2 rear calipers to use with 2 door front rotors from a Tracker. I made the brackets from semi frame steel also due to its strength.

Yeah I saw that, not much help though as far as telling you how to actually fabricate the mounting system.
