Title: Daily drivers
Post by: standog on January 05, 2004, 12:43:42 AM
How many people use there Zuki as a daily driver? Just wondering. trying to find the balance between mods and durability. I have only had my 03 for less than 2 month and already have over 4000 miles on it.

I drive my SJ410 46 miles every day.  I put 2 rolls of duct tape on it so far.   I change the oil at 3k and use purolator filters, and kendal oil.  Just topped 95k and I can exceed the maximum speed set by Suzuki(68 mph) 8)

I use my 98 X-90 as a daily driver 200 miles a day. It has the Calmini 2" suspension lift on it and does great on the interstate.

Mines my DD but I live above my practice.

Great for around town,  but a 45 mile Xpressway drive has me wishing for more power.

With the newer softop it's quiet enough for short trip and in the summer, who cares the top is down ;D.

Yup, DD ~170mi/day. The Michelin LTX 215's I put on it are great on the road and a lot of fun in the snow. This Spring I'm lifting it and putting on a set of 31's as my commute is getting cut by ~160mi/day :)

Drove my 87 Sammi rustbucket as a DD for the past 12 months, 52 miles a day r/t to work. Put about 20K miles on it last year.  Have it off the road now while I scavenge it to build up my new 89 project Sammi.

26 pretty nice miles through rural PA, windy roads through the hills and past farms, over covered bridges, etc.. Not a lot of highway. These little trucks are so fun to drive. I always called it my 4WD Porsche.

Can't wait to finish my new ride! Especially since my 93 cherokee uses 40% MORE GAS!!  :(

Mine was used on and off when i first got her as a DD,but i've always had several vehicles at a time so depending on what i needed to do it got used as much as possible. And when it's really nice out i ride my bike to work.
Then i started on the swap and lost interest for a while, then after losing my job last year i started to work on it fulltime this summer, and finished the swap.
Now i'm in the process of getting everything cleaned up and 100%. So right now she's a garage princess, besides theres a TON of salt on the roads now.

Was a DD but now I drive it half the time right now. When roads get Icey I drive my 4wd p/u because you never know if the other person on the road can drive well.
Besides 32" swampers ain't any good on ice. outside of icee roads I drive it 4-5 days aweek.
I guess I've really fall'in for my zuk..

I'm just east of Reading PA. We should hook up and run Paragon or Rausch Creek sometime - what's that around 2 hours from you, 1.5 from me? (I've never done either but can't wait to try, even the easy trails look like fun).  :D

My 89 project Sammi needs some more weekend work before I can hang the plates on her though, hopefully ready when the spring weather arrives.

87 Sammi rustbucket was DD now a parts donor
89 Sammi project in the works
93 Cherokee (oil slick special) 4 door family truckster as DD for now.

I DD both of my 88 lifted samurai's, when it is icy like now I like to drive the one that has open diffs (no posi) and 31'' radial tsl's with 9psi but I only drive at about 40 mph on the freeway with them that low but they seem to stick better and the ride is nicer the way they plow the roads here. in town is rougher than off roading and it seems to take the abuse but has a nasty front drive line vib. while on hwy so most of the time it is in 2wd but does great so far. both of my samurai's have the drive line vib. but I hear that it is common on these and to ignor it! Dennis.

Mine was a daily driver but now I have to cover 120 miles a day I'm back on a motorcycle. It really wouldn't be worth me going to work with what the Vit costs to run - fuel is just way too expensive over here.

I used my Samurai as DD, but found a "commuter" sidekick. The kick burns a lot less gas, cruises at 70, and is easier on my back too.

Well, the Ol-X-90's transmission finally died (after I tried to do a repair on it :P) So it's back to the 200K having 89 Kick as a daily driver on the 1000 mile a week commute, and it's a champ. Everyone at work thinks I'm crazy for not getting a rental but they do know know the like of a Zukaholic. I almost hope the transmision gets delayed in shipping ;)

It's not bad. Gives me time to wake up in the morning and to unwind in the afternoon. I get to make my own hours, so I come in well before the rush hits (5:00 am) and leave before trafic fics up in the afternoon(3:00PM). Not to mention the pay in Nashville is double what I could get at home.

Thats the same for me.  I run 800 to 1000 miles a week.  I work a flex schedule so I make my hours also, and like you, I get alot more in Lexington than I could in Corbin!  And yes, my Tracker is my DD!

I work 8 miles from where I live. Somehow I still get 800 to 1000 miles a week on it anyway. We literally drive it everywhere.

I put about 350 miles a week on mine and it's a daily driver.  35 miles or so each way to work.  Mostly freeway though and since I only work 3 or 4 days every week that helps reduce the miles I put on it.  If I had to come in a full 5x8 week I'd be putting even more on it with the outside work driving I do.

Other than commuting I don't drive it much unless it's just me though since the kids and wife in a 2 door tracker makes it way too crowded anyway.  I should probably just take the back seats out since I never use em anyway but it's quieter with them in there to absorb noise.
