Post by: Firstzuke on January 06, 2004, 11:28:20 AM
I have been reading all kinds of posts where you guys tell stories talking about snow and mud and forests and IM JEALOUS. I live in So Cal (Orange County) and i have to drive 2 hours to find any good wheelin areas, and all the areas are Desert. Anyways I was just wondering where you guys live and how many people live in So Cal.

I'm not sure but I think I'd trade desert for snow.  I can always forge new trails in a desert, but there is no fun in mud when there is no mud

2 hours for awesome wheeling would be fantastic.  In Chicago the closest legal place is the Badlands offroad park 4 hours away.

Even these spots are more for pre-runners or trucks built for speed and jumping

I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

We don't get much snow here, only for about 2-3 weeks during the winter. (if that)

As for wheeling. Let me just say that this island is a playground. There are so many good places to wheel and a lot of them are within 10 mins of my house.  ;D

Central PA here, and I can be wheeling in 2 minutes. I live between two ridges, and we have an old shale pit about 3/4 mile from my house that is a lot of fun to play in.

I'm in New Hampshire, where there are tons of mountains and mud, too bad there are no legal places to wheel. It sucks trying to find places that aren't posted. Andrew

I'm just jealous of all the areas where we could legally wheel, yet there are vasts amounts of wheeling areas which are closed.  Get involved with a local organized 4wd club. Search http://www.ufwda.org & http://www.sharetrails.org/ for an organized local club or association. Get involved and there will be more places than you can count to go.

As for me personally, located in a SW 'burb of KC, am 1+ hours from an ORV park http://ksrockspark.com which I helped open and manage. I'm ~2 hours from an ORV park in Randolph (Manhattan), KS which is run by Army Corp of Engineers. Then 3+ hours from Disney, OK, 12+ hours from the Rockies, 21+ hours from Moab, UT, 30+ hours from Rubicon, 2+ days from NW and NE and SE.  I need to travel more, that's for sure.

Howcome all clubs have to be jeep oriented! The only one I found that isn't, has all these requirements you have to meet. It sucks, Zukes need to come to new england!

I'm moving up to Schoharie County by year's end, into the western Catskill Mnts.  We're looking at 200-300+ acre farms now.  Here's comes my own private 4x4 ranch!

You need to make the trek to Paragon AP, in PA for 'Gon Zookin'.  You'll drool.

Hey Jagular, I'm in Olathe.   I guess I'll have to run down to Fort Scott this year and check out the park.

You might want to take a look at http://www.jdorv.com if you didn't already know about it.  It's an ORV park in Joplin, Mo.

Paragon rocks!  I was there in October this year, it's a 6 hour drive for us but worth it.
Ohh ya, I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

I've spent a lot of time at Paragon.  Lotta fun.  Also consider Rausch Creek ORP.  It's about 40 miles south of Paragon right along rt 81.  Also a good place and fun!

Yep. Local 4wd club, KC4WDA, has trail rides there maybe 2 times but definately once a year. KC4WDA has plan runs once a month, plus social events, plus a meeting once a month. I went last time (Oct. IIRC) with the Bronco.

As for the KSRocksPark, I'll be there on the 17th weekend, and 2/7th weekend.
For the 17th, I'll be there with the Bronco as I've gotten it to run pretty well now (hard idling and highway running problems). The 7th, I should have the -7 there. Come on down and I'll show you around either weekend.

To add, there will be a Suzuki owners run in Disney, OK on 2/14-15 called the ZukFreeze. I'll either be there on the 14th with a Sami, or the -7. PM me if you are interested.

Alex Bay is 90 miles North of Syracuse at the end of 81 before you get to Canada.

Where in NH are ya?  I used to spend all my summers on Conway Lake, and I went to Keene State College my freshman year.
