Title: Rims 15 x 8...will it work?
Post by: NightMission on May 12, 2005, 10:53:07 AM
Hey I saw a set off wheels I like, but they measure 15 x 8...Anybody using this wheel size ??? I know 15 x 7 is the common wheel...but I'm really green , when it comes to this subject.

15 = is the wheel diameter.
8 = is the wheel width

You need to know if the "wheel bolt pattern" is the same as yours... (i.e. 5"x5.5" - like Samurai/Tracker/Sidekick, older Ford trucks, older Jeeps, etc.)
If its the same bolt pattern, it should work.
It also depends on your tire size... you don't want too wide of a wheel on a skinny tire.

I have 15 x 8's.  I don't know what the  backspacing is.  I have 235/75/15's on them.

I hate it when I see cool new tires on someones rig! Drives me freekin nuts!   Makes me want to go buy some new tires. . . but wait, I have new tires. . .  but I want newer tires. . . but I've got newer tires!   then I see some cool AT's and there it goes again. . .  I want new tires. . .  but I've got new tires. . .  then I see some cool mud terrain tires. . .  then here I go again!  Then I see some cool BFG's and I want them. . . then I see a Hummer with some cool Nittos and I want them!  I can't take it anymore!!!!!

Ok so what has this got to do with the thread?

BTW: is it stock? If its stock, I think 15x8s would be too wide.
I'm running 15x7s on my stock 97 4dr SideKick and they Rub a weeettle bit.

Both of my Trackers are running 15x8" rims with 3.5"-3.75" of backspacing. One with 31x9.50-15 swampers and one with 33x10.50-15 Swampers...

I run 235X75X15 All Terain tires on the Original Equipment 3 spoke alloy wheels which are 5.5 inches wide.  It works perfectly.  Wish I had a smaller back space to get more width in the stance but I may go to spacers for that.  Before spending money I would look back at other tire threads.  do a search about 180 days back and see what you find.  There is a lot of knowledge out there.

Yup, took some time to find a good one, I knew exactly what I wanted the rig to look like ( even had it PhotoShopped before I had a Samurai ) and knew I needed a LWB for it. Turned out just the way we PhotoShopped it ( even a little higher ;) ), just needs the colors to be changed to "American Police Car" colors: MattBlack with MattWhite doors and "Official Hummer 2 Recovery Vehicle" on te doors ( which it now only says on the little decal on the doors ;) )
