Title: Brand new owner - what should I do first?
Post by: Zukoway on January 14, 2020, 07:30:49 PM
Hi everybody,
I just bought my first Samurai, an '86, and I'm very excited to have it!  It's all stock, mostly one owner, 112k and I don't think it's been driven much in awhile.  It starts, runs and stops well enough, but I can tell it needs some work.  I'm not too sure where to start, other than an oil change and new spark plugs.  From the experts out there, is there anything I should be looking out for or that you would recommend as necessary maintenance?
Thanks for any advice

Go to Ack's FAQ and download the manual for the Samurai - find the maintenance section and work your way through the items listed in the 60,000 mile service - also replace the timing belt and change all transmission, transfer case & differential fluids.

When you replace the u-joints make sure to replace the ones in the jack shaft between the transfer case and the transmission.  Nothing is more annoying then having to go back after that one.  :D
