Title: Strange knocks when moving from stationary, especially on hills, with high load
Post by: ozcour on April 14, 2020, 08:22:46 AM
Hello all,
I am Ozgur from Turkey.
I have a 2008 Grand Vitara 2.0 Automatic. I use it as daily drive. 215K km on gauge. I did the last 15K.
There are strange knocks when moving from stationary, especially on hills, with high load.
Knocking is increasing if I steer left or right. But each move from stationary I hear this tak tak tak, after 10km/h, noise is gone.

I checked all the fluids, they are OK.
I checked the rear prop shaft, It seems OK.
As for info I have another problem, It hasn't switch the other mods. Only 4H works. No service history, But I saw that, the 4WD module socket was removed when I checked it next to the cabin filter. It was like that when I bought it. ESP light always indicates on gauge.

Here no repairman has a great idea about the problem. Also it is hard to find parts and expensive.

Do you think is it related with the chain in transfercase?
Greetings from Turkey.

Have you checked the condition of the CV joints in your front axle shafts?  Does it make the noise in both 4x4 and 2x4?

Hello,

Front and Rear main shafts are OK, but didn't check the front axle shafts.
My Grand Vitara has no option as 4x2.

By the way, if it is related with front axles, Shouldn't I observe when steering wheel is at straight position?

Regards,

Generally, a clicking or knocking noise only when turning is a sign of a bad CV joint.  If they are bad enough, they will make noise all the time.
