Title: What way would you go???
Post by: Mud_Man on January 01, 2004, 01:34:56 PM
Im looking at two sammys
Sammy 1 has a 5" lift and Hard top. The Sammy looks to be in good condition, seats are covered. Also oversized tires (not sure of size) 2600.00
Sammy 2 has 2pc Fiberglass Hard top and has been pulled most of its life behind an RV. The seats need to be recovered (big deal I have Taz Covers) other than that seller says body and interior are very clean. If it matters this one is a JX model. 1400.00
These are both approx. 4hours away ironically one to the North one to the South. I have only seen a pic of the sammy 1.
In both cases sellers say vehicles run great  :o

My plans include putting in a 1300 motor and tranny both with less than 10k miles. I know the owner of the motor and tranny (He has them in his Sammy currently and he does have bigger tires, close to 33s if Im not mistaken.

I plan on going with a lift (sammy 1 already has a 5" calmini lift) as well as the bigger tires.

A new front bumper to accomadate a Warne Winch.

And I dont know what else yet...but definintly more ;D

Sammy 2 currently has tranny out as its making a noise and he is putting it back in...dont think the problem is fixed, however I have my friends tranny so that shouldnt be a problem.
I have about 3k to play with, so what would you do?  :-/

Thanks
Mud Man

Well I like to build my own rigs I liek to put the lift on my self so that I know what has been done to it also if it is all ready lifted and has larger tires on it you really don't know how hard it has been wheeled and beaten on, so I would say go with sammy #2 also it has the remove able hard top which is nice too.

I would definately go for 2.
Reasons;
1- Towed most of it's life means runs thorugh the park and to the grocerystore, not being beat through the woods.
2- You can check outher rides and build your self exactly what you want
3- The other one is Lifted but may not be what you want. It could be half ass built, ride terrible worn springs etc...
4- You can probably get #2 to drop on the price with the tranny messed up. Tell them you are willing to drive the 4 hours to get it if they drop the price a few hundred bucks so you can put in a new tranny.
5- you dont know how well the owner of the lifted one treated his ride. It's lifted to trail ride and the guy may drive like Mike :o ;D

Later,
Zig

Around here we tell people dont start with other people problems.  Start with a stocker and make it your own.

#2 has my vote.

Note:  #1 Could be a daily driver that never saw a dirt road.  The guy just wanted to look cool.   We have a few of those around.  But how do you tell??

It was very sad.  :'(  :'(  :'(

I saw the awsome looking CJ7 last summer.  Sitting on a set of 37's and looking like it was done up right.  The guy was just sitting in a parking lot eating his lunch so I went over to talk to him.

As it turned out it was just a street rig.  When I asked him if he "wheeled it" his answer was "Not much".  "My brother did a realy good job on the paint and there was very little wheeling needed."

So I asked where he took it off road, he told me he doesn't.  Might scrach up the paint!  :o

Well my decision has been made  ;D
A drum roll please
And the winner, by popular demand, is Sammy #2.
Now if I can quit playing email tag with the seller, we can begin Mods :D
And lil truck, What a sad, sad story. But point well taken. It will be a daily driver, but I do plan on attacking as much mud and rock as I can. Perhaps that person will grow up and realize that its only paint and will join the rest of us on the trail ;D
Thanks folks,
Mud Man

You know, some times we sit around and think back to our old stocker day.  I don't know if I've met anyone who didn't have fun with their stockers.  ;D
