I have an sj410 with the 1000 cc engine. It is horribly lacking power. I am at a loss where to start to achieve more horses. Engine swap? Modifications? If I need different engine what is best choice? Any help on this matter would really be appreciated

an engine swap in in order.  i would put a 8V or 16V tracker engine in  the 16V has 15 more HPs than the 8V and has 4 more ft pounds of tork(spell check) 1000 RPMs higher than a 8V.  but the 16V are way more expenceive then a 8V.  lata stu

Horribly lacking power - must be something wrong with it. The stock engine should have 45bhp, surely thats enough for anyone? ;D ;D ;D ;D Seriously if you want a big increase in bhp/torque go for a 1.6L. You can get good results from a carb change with a header and performance exhaust. You can also use the 413 dizzy and coil if you have points ignition. You have to weigh up how much performance parts would cost you against how much a 1.6 swap would be. I run mine with a 1.5" SU carb and a header and exhaust but I was fortunate enough to pick these up used.
