Title: Carbon Fiber
Post by: Mythose on May 11, 2005, 09:36:58 AM
I here a lot of talk about Weight, i know somone that has a carbon fiber mold, would anyone be intrested in carbon fiber  parts?  if so email me Mennouth|removethispart|@gmail.com,

I am going to have him make me a finder with a mount for a snorkel up by the windshield molded into it. I know fenders for a honda cost about  $125 ,

I am thinking of a hard top kit out of carbon, so it is lighter and stronger then fiber glass.

Not to sound tuner ish, but any interior parts would be cool. Like dash pieces and what not. It has a nice finished look to it.

Hoods would also be a good idea. Nice and lightweight.

Its a good thought. But seeing as a lot of the rigs on here are wheelin rigs. I think you'd be hard pressed to find people willing to spend 125 bucks on a fender when you can buy a new metal one for 60 bucks. That your just going to wreck anyway. Just my .02 Id go for interior parts though That would be cool.

I would think that kevlar would be better in this application, not as light as carbon fiber but will stand the knocks better. I ended up going with kevlar on my old racing jet skis as we could bounce of rocks in river runs and even withstand being center punched on the race track while the carbon fiber tends to shatter.

I dont know how complicated a shape you can make, but i have always thought the samurai Dash was really wimply and needed an aftermarket solution. It doesnt have to be redesigned, just make it so it doesnt age like crap and look bad. and a cup holder would be nice...... ;)

I am talking with him about Interior piecs,  But i have to carve them out of somthing for a mold, as long as you get a mold should be able to make just about any shape you want,. but i will find out.

I would have to agree about that. The Kevlar is a bit more expensive to work with if my memory serves me correctly. I think that you could build some very nice interior pieces though.

Were can you get sami fenders for $60 :o?? All the part finders I've found are around $130 each :(

A carbon hood with intake scoops would be sick or an intake scoop for the fresh air duct like they have for jeeps to flow more fresh air through the ducts(why has no one addressed this yet ???).
