Title: Tracker/Sidekick power steering box leaking

Anybody know if these things are rebuildable? I'm sure it's just seals but I'm not terribly thrilled with the cost involved to replace it and it has begun to leak pretty bad lately.  

I guess they must be rebuildable since there are remanufactured ones available, but I'd rather just do it myself so if anyone has a line on parts availability please share it.

Can't really call the dealer today to ask em obviously.

gm had a rebuild kit for 57 CDN. I got another one free so I never bothered to rebuild

That's good to know.  Should cost $40 US, shop cost.

Well, I'll probably end up paying the Sucks to be you! Retail price but either way it's much cheaper than a whole new or reman'd steering box.

Would you be so kind as to post the cost and part # when you find out? I have a few that mark their territory everywhere they are parked!!

Well, no luck from either the Suzuki or Chevy parts departments.  Nothing from NAPA or other parts places. No such animal.  I'm trying a place called ATSCO here in Phoenix that rebuilds em doubt they'll sell just the seal kit as they just remanufacture the things but what the heck it's worth a try.

Pull the old seals, get the #s and order new ones
by the part #s, I got my Trans seal, for the input
from a place here in So. Cal. called Applied Technologies
Used to be called King Bearing, they had the seal in L.A.
cost me $6 and it's high temp silicone too, probably
$30 from the dealer, anyway, this might work if it's
just simple drive in seals.

That's probably what it's going to come to, the ATSCO place was apparently closed yesterday so I'll try em again Monday.  

The only real problem with pulling the old seals and matching them is the downtime if I can't get new ones right away.  Walking 30 miles to work if my wife can't give up her car for the day isn't my idea of a fun time and the bus service here really sucks.  (Not to mention that since I start work at 6am I'd have to leave the house at about 2 am to get here on time if I took the bus)

Sorry about you leak.

Mine doesn't leak but it might not even be there.  It's like I don't even have power stearing.

I can hold the stearing wheel against the stops all day and the pump barly wineds and hardly gets hot...

I might try pulling it apart and trying to shim the spring like someone sugested in another post.
