Title: Planning for Moab - need to shack up...
Post by: Yankee Tim on December 03, 2003, 07:35:07 AM
Okay, if you are not planning on going to the Moab EJS in 2004, you can pass this up.

I got ground clearance to take my boy (7) back out to Moab, barring any problems with me making money (own my own biz)

Looking to share a condo or hotel, or someone with a place there that would be up for some good company.

TIA,

We are definately (at least 99 percent sure... 1 percent being that my truck doesn't spontaneously explode before hand..) that we are going to Moab this spring. If it makes it cheaper to *shack up* in a hotel with a few people, et. al YOU...! Then I am all for it. I think we are also bringing a couple of friends down... so maybe we can get a bargain! (got yer sleeping bags ready? Slumber party!!!) Otherwise.... we will be campin'.

I've been to Moab twice now (csince I live in NY and drive my rig there, that's quite a feat).  Tented the first time, cabin'd the second.  My bones are too old (36, LOL) to do that again.  Besides, the bars are closer to the motels than the campgrounds.  ::)

Hmmm, as Mike said, can you PROMISE not to get all touchy feely?  ;)

That might be the ticket.  Another Idea is to rent an RV and split that up.  As long as I have a real bed, and a place to make Jiffy Pop.  ;D

I want to lead a run out Hurrah Pass and to Chicken Corners.  Not the hardest trail, but and all day-er and personally my favorite trail.  Absolutly beautiful.

It's Chunk you have to look out for not Mike! :) He tries to slip you the "Minnesota How DO!?". Your never the same...

Tim, What day do you want to lead that run? I'm looking for volunteers to lead trips/runs/rides. As you may have seen I started a bulletin board specifically for Moab, and I'm going to build a summary page based off of that, that will have trail leaders, trails, descriptions on it to help people get together and wheel.

So, anyone that would like to volunteer please hop over to the MOAB EJS board and sign up.

Thanks, Eric

Yeah, a little bird gave me the heads up about this.

Well, I will lead Moab 101.  Not easy, but doable with coaching by a stocker.  Hurrah Pass/Chicken Corners will be a complete day.

I will also run Poison/Golden/Bar if that is the CALMINI run.  Heck, unless I'm assured massive body damage or mechanical failure, I'll run what you are running.

You can also abuse me to lead lesser runs on days when you'll be primarily hard-core.  Maybe a sight-seeing tour of the Park and the off-road trail that's in that?

I'll post up on the other forum.

Tim, do you still have those drive flanges???
I can use them in the Full Floater in stead of
hubs, I thought they might be stronger than
stock Kick hubs, any thoughts ???

Somewhere...over the rainbow...I got them stashed.  If you need em, I'll go dig them up.

I would go with the locking hubs if you ask me.  A simple twist and you can isolate a broken shaft (good reason for a full floater.  Also, you can unlock both and flat two easily if you need to.

Do the hubs instead of lockouts, if you ask me

OK, I have a spare lockout hub, I need to get another, I have a set
of autos I thought about putting on the Turbo Kick but I have learned
since getting them that I got better already installed   :)

I was too tired to post this the other night, but I did confirm I
can use (with some minor mod) Suzuki parts, bolted onto the
stock, unmodified rear axle, and add a custom double splined
end axle shaft for a full floater. Going to pick up some parts
tomorrow, and get the mods done to them, then figure out the
axle length, Custom axle shafts are $300-400 per set, I'm going
to see if I can bolt on rear disks with this mod too, looks real doable
;)

Thanks Tim, for the offer, are the drive flanges cast ? or welded up ?
If you don't remember that's fine, just curious.

Why don't you want to take your rig? There are many different levels of trails to pleasure any 4x4 enthusiast.

You would have been able to do ALL of the moderate trails that we went on that are on our site.
