Title: sammy 3member in tracker front?
Post by: 1bigtracker on November 30, 2003, 05:58:30 AM
i was just thinking. you take the cheap front out of a tracker and put it in a sammy without drilling the case.  why not take a steel sammy 3 member out and  put it in the of a tracker?  that would open up a lot more locker possibiltys.  but what is the spline count on the front and rears of sammy?  are the front and rears the same?  all you would need a sleeve retaner kit i think.  some more info would be nice.  lata stu

you could put a samurai front in a trakick but there is no mount on the top of the diff to hold it in place, that is why they are using the xl-7 or maybe it is the g.v. diffs in the front they are steel. the front splines are 22 and the rears are 26. prob. same for trackick.

I read that, I have a ARB up front.  So all I should need is the steel XL-7 front 3rd member???

I've been looking at the Calimini Anvil.

That seams like alot of money, for a few more buck's pick up a samurai front axel and put it under there or a toyota and just get it over with! streight axel kit. unless you just putt it on dirt roads and have not broken anything yet just leave it! once you start you can never go back and your bank account will never be the same lol.

For all steel beef, you'd need the XL.7 3rd member and Intermediate (what do we call that thing?) housing. Your gears and locker will fit in there. The other two options are GV 3rd member from a manual and the Anvil housing. All of these can be mixed and matched depending on what you run across/budget. All of these parts are available from either aftermarket vendors or, the factory stuff is on the books at, your local Suzuki dealer.

On the XL.7 be sure to look for manual transmissions up 'til 03 when all are steel. (These were the findings at my last parts counter chat.)

Oh yeah, one more tid-bit... The XL.7 3rd member housing bolts differently to the crossmember ( a stronger way) this requires a new two piece mount which can also be ordered at the dealer.

Good Luck, Eric

Lord knows I've put a lot of money into my rig!!!

I know the benifits of a solid axil up front, but whats the fun in that???  I love showing up with my lil Truck (96 Tracker) IFS front and go hange with the big boys.  You know you get those looks like "what kinda problems is this guy going to give us??" or just plain laugh at me.

But afterwards all those same guys/girls are crowding around and asking a bunch of questions.

I know a guy that after seeing me wheel a few times.  He sold his chevey Truck with a big block and bought a Sammi.

if you want a soild axle they buy a sammy.  yes i think a soild would work better but that takes all the fun out of beating on the guys with the big block chevys.  lol  lata stu
