Shifter Cable ??? Do you have a Kick or a sami ??? The Kick shifters attach directly to the top of the bell housing with shifting arms that run back to the trans. I'm not sure how the Sami is set up. There is a bushing that the end of the shifter sits in, if that fell out you would have a very slopy shifter and probably have a real hard time hitting a few gears. But you would of had to remove the shifter for it to fall out.

There is no shifter cable in the Sammy. The shifter uses a direct connection to the top of the tranny. You may have the infamous "sloppy shifter" syndrome that almost every Sammy gets sooner or later. If your shifter is sloppy when it's in gear, and you have to hunt to find gears, that's probably the problem. Take the four bolts that hold the shifter boot off and lift it off the floorboards. You will see the shifter is held down to the tranny with 3 bolts. Below those bolts, there is a single bolt with a head that faces towards the rear of the vehicle. This bolt has the threads turned down off the end of it, and it fits into a slot in the ball in the end of the shift lever. This keeps the shifter aligned properly, and is prone to wear/breaking. You can order a new one for about $1.50 from just about any Zuk aftermarket company. I got my supply from Rocky Road. I keep several on hand, as they don't seem to last too long when you wheel....

In the Gear Guide Section we reviewed Hawk's upgrade shifter kit. It upgrades to the late model shifter bolt which is larger. Even if you don't buy the kit, the article shows how to dig into the shifter tower.
