i said in another post my car was running kinda pooey(lol) someone said it was because it was running lean? thats why the exh. manifold was glowing red? how can i fix that i have the 8v 91 tracker could running lean be why i cant take my car like say to reno? after about 45 mins on the way to reno ( i live in sac so its only what 1hr 30mins away) it was running like a dog..never died never smoked just was kinda mushy and wouldnt hold 65 up hills unless i was full on the gas
-
Might be the fuel filter on the very edge of enough
fuel flow to keep you going, until you hit a hill then
not enough, lean, hot ......... "pooey"
-
how do i fix that then? i know that somethings wrong with the egr valve but thats alot of money so i have been puting it off because they said the car will run fine w.o it

The EGR valve by design reduces combustion chamber temperatures so that may well be your problem.
-
hmm i guess mabey its time to have that looked at... is it hard to change myself?
-
I've got no hookup from the turbo header to supply
exhaust gas to the EGR, so I don't know if EGR is a
factor, purpose for the EGR is to reduce NOX emissions
I don't know how it does that, but it does.
The fuel filter is in the back, under by the tank, right side
of vehicle, looks like a small can with lines going in one
side and out the other.
-
so u think that changing the fuel filter will help?somebody said it might be timing but it runs fine from really hot to really cold runs well it doesnt idle funny unless the stereos on =) but i know howto fix that
-
It won't hurt to change the filter,
it's not hard to do and they don't
cost much, but it's a guess, did
you check the timing ? that's a
factor too, glowing red can be from
too much fuel too, I've seen a cat
glowing from under a car from raw
gas getting to it, could be you got
a dead rat in the muffler too.....
ya just never know, I once worked
on a Corvette that a stupid rat packed
the muffler full of dog food.... so go
figure, check all the factors, use a mixture
meter on the exhaust, might have a bad
O2 sensor............. ???
-
iii so many things it could be...arent 02 sensors expensive? i thought it might be that someone said that b4 to :( lol i think ill start with the filter seems the easyest i hope theres no rat in there alough it does kind smell when u leave it running lol

.[/quote]The oxides of nitrogen (nox) are a by-product of very high combustion temperatures. The egr reduces these temperatures by recirculating exhaust gas into the incoming air/fuel mixture to prevent a high heat/ fast burn. This is why egr operation can also help pinging.

i dont get that it cools it down by adding heat?
doesnt that rob power to? =)

True that, just buy one and have it changed. Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest difference.

Holy shit, that's crazy...
-
Thanks Tomcat, I get it, slower burn = less NOX,
the heat of the exhaust isn't as big of a factor.

Not enough to worry about. It doesn't add any heat. The exhaust gasses are oxygen depleted so it slows the combustion process. Less O2, Slower, cooler combustion.
