Help please!!!
Ok all I need to hear some tips and ideas on what might be causing my problem.
A couple months ago my Tracker started Running rough on my way home from work.  It would idle great but as soon as I let out the clutch and put it under power it would cough and sputter like it was cutting out and then starting again.  I stoped at a store and got a can of dry gass put it in and the problem went away.  It was some time before I drove it again and when I did I filled it up and drove about 30 miles or so and the same problem popped up.  That time I noticed that if I shut it off and started it again it would run good again.  This weekend I pulled the gas tank down to repair (again) the power lines where they go into the tank thinking that might be causing the problem.  So my buddy took it to work as a test drive today (100 miles one way). He got about 80 miles and the problem reapeared.  He is going to pick up a fuel filter today and put that in but Ive never heard of a fuel filter that will unclog when you shut the motor off.
Have any of you experenced a similar problem?  Any ideas on what might be causing it?

Check the TPS (my best guess)
Any ECM codes?

No codes

Clogged fuel filter can cause fuel starvation. There isn't enough fuel coming through when the engine is under load so the fuel pressure drops. When you turn it off aand back on again there is no fuel going through the engine so the pressure builds up again.

Ok my buddy tried to change the fuel filter for me last night but it turns out he got the wrong one. Anyway he took the old filter off and he said the stuff that came out of it looked like tarr. So well get the right filter today and hopefully thats it.
Keep your fingers crosed for me!!

I would get 2 filters. Change one now and in a couple thousand miles, change it again. Hopefully you can get all of the "tar" out of the tank.

I'm having almost the same problem, it just started for me this past week when I started driving the car to/from work on the freeway and higher than normal speeds. I thought I fried the injector of something, but I'll try to swap the fuel filter out and see what happens.
