Title: Removing Dash - HELP!!
Post by: DanMan2k06 on May 07, 2005, 12:54:36 PM
I am currently in the proccess of re-painting the interior of my 89 sidekick. I've gotten everything done except the main dash panel. I took the steering wheel off to try and remove it easier, but the dash still wont fit over the wiper and blinker controls. Is there any way to remove these controls without taking out a million other bolts or having to reassemble a bunch of intrecate parts? Thanks...

I can look at our donor Tracker tomorrow but if it's the same as your Sidekick there is a lot of wiring that will hold the dash from coming off.

2 bolts under the dash hold the shaft up. You should be able to remove those and lay the steering shaft down enough...

If the 89 is the same as my 94 you just need to remove the plastic cover around the colum if you havnt allready.  Then there are 4 screws near the center that hold the directional assembly in place then just unclip the wiring and slide the hole assembly off.  Also dont forget to pop the dash center plate off (around the radio) and take out the two screws that hold the heater controlls off.  That way you can just leave the controlls behind and not have to disconect the cables.

He is repainting the interior.  I would guess that means A-piller, targa bar, doors, and such.  Not painting the dash and vents and the like.

I thought 89's didn't have much interior cladding at all, mainly just lots of exposed painted metal...
