Title: EFI conversion wiring problem
Post by: mtntoy on November 17, 2003, 03:54:56 AM

I finally started installing my EFI into my Sammy yesterday. I have the complete donor harness and am just swapping them out. I came across a very confusing problem last night. My carb harness has a yellow w/blue wire going to my oil pressure sending unit. My copies of the wiring diagrams show the same wire on an EFI harness. There is no yellow w/blue wire on the donor harness. There is a white w/green mated with a black on a green plug on the driver's side on the new harness where the yellow w/blue is on the old. Can anyonr help me out here? Is the green plug the oil wire? Also, I understand that I can wire up the new fuel pump using the oil pressure sending unit to activate the pump, but since I have the complete harness can I just wire in a new pump where the stock pump in the tank would connect and not use a relay? I have the in tank electric pump, but not the EFI tank, so I'm going to use an external pump.

If anyone hase some pictures or diagrams for the hoses and wires on the new EFI, I would greatly appreciate them. I bought the whole EFI already removed, so I don't have a point of reference. I think I have it all hooked up ok....so far!!

more info? are you putting in a tbi or multi port? you need a relay there should be a couple in the stock harness! one is for the fuel pump.

The truck is a 88.5.  The donor harness is from a 90 Sammi.  I understand that it is a plug and play.  I figured out what wires I can use to run the pump, but still haven't figured out the oil sending unit wire.  If anyone has done this swap and has pics it would be very helpful.  Thanks.

Did you get the gas tank from the '90? That will bolt in and solve your pump problem.

I didn't get the tank.  I bought the parts from out of state and shipping the tank was impossible.  I do have the stock pump though, so if anyone needs one let me know.

I think it would be worth it for you to look at the gas tank that you already have. If you have the Samurai EFI tank fuel pump, it may bolt into the earlier non-efi tank. Do you have the whole assembly with the float and tubes and such? Its probably worth a look. I have casually looked at both tanks out of the vehicles and I don't think they are that different. The flange at the top of the tank where the float and all the lines go through is very similar...

I think a quick call to Trail Tough or Hawk could get you an answer. Plus you could buy a tank from them, or get the appropriate fuel pump if you have too.

Good Luck, -Eric
