hey, my friend just bought a 6inch lifted samurai today with 33 a/t's and has found some major problems. His biggest problem is that after offroading the t-case would not shift from 4low back to 2hi. Is there a nack to shifting the lever on sami's? cause i noticed its a weird set up compared to sidekicks and trackers which is what we are used to. Any other quick fixes? it seems to be jammed right in place, he'll look into getting a permanent fix in the future, but for now needs it for commuting to work etc.
any help would be greatly appreciated, the guy he bought it from isnt helping and says it never had problems before.
thanks, Andrew

Its prob your shifter bushing or whatever its called you can get a new one for under 15 dollars , you can get them on ebay theres almost always some on there its not hard to change out I changed mine out the other day in about 45 minutes . will look and see id I can find one for you .,, well there wasnt one on there this time you can try .. Suzuki Johns website thats where I got mine , well it was on ebay but he was selling it .. anyway its not hard to change out comes with instructions ..

For now to get it out you might rock it back and forth going from reverse to 1st , I have had 4x4s that would get stuck and then come out after this ... or crawl underneath and look for allen head screw theres only one on the whole T case if you unscrew this (be careful theres a spring and a ball bearing in there ) this could possibly ease it enough to get it out of 4 low . these are the only 2 things I can think of to try short of pulling the shifter out and fixing it that way ..

Im almost positive its the shifter sheet in the T-case. I had the exact same problem with mine. Got her stuck in 4low. On the shifter where it goes into the Tcase, you will see a rubber boot. Lift up the boot and you will see a metal cap with 2 slots in it. Push the cap down and while its pushed down, give it a turn and then the shifter will pop right out. Reach in there and pull out all of the broken and wore out pieces of the old sheet. New one just pops right in. Install shifter the same way it came out. Took me about 20mins, but I also have a body lift and was able to access the T-case from underneath the samurai by reaching up on top of it...

HOLD THE PHONE! ;D I noticed you said "its a weird set up compared to Sidekicks" It shouldn't be, the stock shift pattern for the Samurai is very similar and has a strong positive feel to it. There is a possibility that the previous owner modified the case to have the "2-lo" option. If that is the case then the shifter is wobbly and getting it back into 2 hi from 4 lo requires in essence two shifts. The t-case would have a modified "H" pattern where the gears 'lo and hi' would be on the right part of the 'H' and the '4wd and 2wd' would be on the left.
I'd check this before you take the case out for repairs. After that, check the shift sheet for wear. Hawk, TT, and RRO sell the fix.
Good Luck, Eric
