Title: Tracker Rack Project (Updated Pics)
Post by: TN_Tracker on November 07, 2003, 01:36:49 PM
After welding up my own hitch I decided to design and build a trail rack that could be assembled out of easily available materials and simple tools, no welding involved. Take a look at the pics and give me your opinion.
Thanks

The materials came from Home Depot. Ignore the bungee cords, I just removed a plastic container I use to haul small items.

Yep, I need some better pics. I plan on making a detailed drawing and parts list if enough people are interested.

No spare? ??? If the factory tire rack is still there this rack will still bolt up.

I'd like a rack that bolts there that will
hold a couple of Jerry Cans ;)

I think it looks great too!  But for me personally, I don't really need something like that.  I like the look of my spare tire cover.

But, GOOD work man! Looks really sharp!  :D

I'm interested in seeing the drawings and/or better pics. Looks like the perfect addition to my rig for hauling a gas can for my race bike ;)

Thanks for your opinion guys, I appreciate it. I decided to remove the SideTracker Rack for a fresh coat of paint and to get some better pics.

After I bolted It Back On

I think these pics pretty much tell the story. It was easy to lay out and the tools I needed were a hacksaw and a drill but a vise would be pretty handy for bending the corners.

Here's the material list:
2- 1 1/2"X6' angle iron
1- 12"X24" expanded metal grate (already pre-cut at Home Depot)
9- 1/2"X1" bolts

Note: I have no idea how much weight the factory mount can stand but I've had at least 75lbs. on it with no problems so far.

Very good job.  Great, especially since it no welding and simple tools.  Why don't you take some how-to pics and do a write up for Zukiworld so it get into the tech archive?  Maybe the kick hitch too?

Just an idea.  I'm sure the readers would like it.

Yankee Tim,
That's a great idea. Could someone give me an idea of what's required for me to submit an article? Thanks for the comment. ;D

TN, write it out in Word. Within the article place (inster pic1 here) where you want each pic placed and e-mail the word file and pic's to Eric (ebewley|removethispart|@zukiworld.com) He then reviews it and lets you know what he thinks.
Later,
Zig

"Nice rack!"
;D

I especially like how light-weight it is.  This will make an excellent addition to the swing-away bumper we already use!

Thanks!

Thanks Nate. It pales in comparison to all of your mods, especially the bumper. 8)
Could you give me part # for your fender flares. I looked in the Whitney's Catalog but I'm not sure which ones you used.
