Well, after a long oddysey, I have the extra rims and today got the Cooper Weathermaster tires installed. I parked the Tiger slick OEMs in the garage.
The rig seems a bit more stable and doesn't jump like it did when there is a line in the pavement. Seems to track straighter too.
These were the best ones I could find for my rig. Cooper specifically says there are for winter.
COme spring, the Tiger Slicks will go back on. You know, those are the best tires for dry pavement........ever!

WOW those are nice tires! I like the rim in the picture too. :-*
Holy smokes...if my Sidekick could talk, the winter stories it would tell of....
A few years ago it snowed like 4 feet high all over town for 2 straight days, the next morning (on a Sunday) I went to drop my brother off at work downtown and MAN was it fun being one of the few autos on the road able to plough it's way through the white stuff!!! LOL....
Everyone else was stuck and could not move for weeks!!!
SUZUKI 4x4 RULES!!! 8)

Wish that was my rim! All I got was the basic steel wheels, just like the ones that came with my rig. Figure the nasty salt and cinder will tear up good rims anyway.
Plus, all 5 rims for $150. Just ONE new one at the dealer set me back almost 200.
-
I got the standard Sidekick rims with the circle holes in steel. Every summer I pull them off, scrub them clean, and put 3 coats of tough enamel silver paint. They look real sharp.
-
Thems are some pretty cool tires. We dont see to much snow down here, well, I have never seen snow in my life. :'( I have trouble keeping traction on wet roads. Mainly leaving a stop light and turning corners...... ;D
-
I slip a little in the rain too, if I really floor it. I can't say I have ever slipped or loss traction making a turn in the rain.
Snow is slip slide occasionally, sometimes even with the 4x4 engaged...but that's usually at higher speed.
But with some nice snow tires, the ride is a steady as a straight line.
-
And they are american made too. SO far, the rig seems to be more stable however there is more road noise with this design than with the tiger slicks.
-
.....I have never seen snow in my life. ....
You have never seen snow?? Man, you're missing out on some fun  ;D.  We usually get quite a bit up here.  It brings a whole new challenge to wheeling.
-
Did you score those rims from that Ebay bid?

South Texas. Never seen it once. And everytime I have ever went out of state, it was during the summer time. Thought I seen a tiny bit once when I was little, but it was just the grass frosted over.........
-
The best part about snow is watching all the flat landers
driving their cars, getting stuck as they pull off the road.
LOL and the zuke just keeps on going, in 2WD, just about
the time you start to slip, click to 4WD, and cruise on by all
the stuck cars and P/ups, lotta fun.
;D

I noticed today that after sitting all day, when I take off, there is a bit of vibration around 40 mph to 50mph. I assume the rims are ok otherwise they wouldn't have balanced out at all or the tire guy would have brought it to my attention?????
Or could these by the kind of tires that flat bottom after sitting a while?
Or could the tires themselves be bad? I have not used these rims before, got them second hand from a yahoo group person in Altoona.
Any ideas? I did check the weights and the most is .75 oz on one the right rear. All the other tires have .50 oz weights so there must not be too much out of roundness is there?
?????????? ??? ??? ???
-
For TIM>>>>>>>>no I missed the ebay bid.......this was a guy on the yahoo group. Five rims for $150 cash.

YOUR NOT MISSING MUCH ;D IT SURE IS A PAIN IN THE BACK DOOR WHEN YOU DRIVE 230 MILES A DAY IN IT ::) DON'T MIND IT IN MY ZUKE BUT IT SURE SUCKS IN THE BIG BROWN TRUCK ...HAPPY ZUKING ! MATTY D.
-
fed x here has four wheel drive vans!! tell them they should keep up with the jone's lol.
-
I HATE driving anything but a 4x4 in the winter time... I used to work for a delivery company that uses Freightliner FL60 trucks and they suck BIG TIME in deep snow...
Me and my Sidekick even smoke by Subaru Imprezas in the snow....lol
-
Anyone with ideas on the vibration? I too the pressure down to 30 PSI for each tire.........its still there. ??? :-[ :-/
-
Whats it say inside your drivers door for tire pressure?
My X90 says inflate to 23lbs so you may still be too high.
-
26 psi front and back. Funny thing is, I ran the tiger slicks at 35 to firm up the handling and such and I had no vibrations at all.
I am starting to really wonder if I have a bad tire here.
-
Maybe because its a different tire, you cant run higher pressures? Just an idea.......
-
Ok, bled off enough air to fill the goodyear blimp........or to put it another way, about the same amount Mike Hagen had on his romps thru the air...........but I digress.
Down to 26PSI now and I just got back from going down rt 8 at steady 40, then 42 then 45.........keeping in 4th .
The vibration is still there but more "muted" I guess. The rig goes in tomorrow to get the AC condensor replaced and while its up on the lift, might have them spin the wheels and see if there is an ugly bulge on a tire somewhere.
Otherwise, I guess its back to the Cooper dealer and ask, "What the ****"
First go around with Cooper tires, if they suck this bad, it may be my last. Problem is, not too many other choices out there for a good snow tire in 215 65r 16

WE CANT EVEN GET A SNOW TIRE, LET ALONE 4X4 THEY RUN THE SAME TIRES YEAR ROUND AND EXPECT YOU TO BE ABLE TO DO THE SAME WORKLOAD SNOWY DAY OR NOT ;D
-
Maybe it's because the thicker tread is causing the noise/vibration? ???
-
Hamster,
I bet it's the tire. I am having a vibration out of one of my brand new Cooper tires. They have re-balanced them twice, checked the allignment, tried to blame it on a brake dragging, tried to blame it on my wheel spacers, and it's the damn tire. I told them during my last trip to shop that I expected a replacement for it if the re-balance did not work this time, and guess what? It did not work again. The last set of coopers I had were great tires and lasted a long time but this experience is starting to make me think twice about buying them again.

Called the Cooper dealer today he says either incorrect balance or possible bad tire(s). Very accomodating and wants me in as soon as I can and he will take care of it.
Back when I was a petroleum transfer engineer, when balancing a tire I remember if the rim was really shot or the tire had heavy spots, it would take 2.5 to 4.0 oz weights to compensate. Last night I did check outside and inside of all 4 wheels and no weight is larger than .75 oz.
-
I'd say tire also. Had a problem w/ Pirelli Scorpian A/Ts on a 2500 Suburban. re-balnced twice 2 different shops and both said the wheels were bad (Bull***). Pirellis wore out, now it has Uniroyals, no vibes same wheels. The tires just sucked.
-
I work at a tire shop and can testify that Coopers suck. If you want quality try Bridgestone nobody ever complains about them. Except price. ;) Cheap zuki owners! ::)
Or buy some Swampers!

-
Shed somelight on this if you can mike....what have you seen at your tire shop.....I did a ton o' research on cooper and really didn't find anything bad, sure they've had their recalls and stuff but nothing that raised a red flag tome.
-
If you look at the tire as it is spinning on the ballancer
and you watch the tread, does it have any bumped spots
or lumpy spots??
I've seen tires shaved for racing, where you want tread but
not too much and you don't want old used tires, if you see
lumps, look into getting the tread shaved, not too much, just
enough to true up the tread, if they still run rough, I dunno
what to tell you. Lower the PSI to 23 or 22 it helps soften
the ride, I run 13 PSI in 31s front and rear.
-
Shaving! YIKES.......naw, I will stick to shaving my beard though! ;D
-
U-Joints?
-
I doubt it. Seriously, it didn't do this with the tiger slicks on there.
-
We got a our first taste of winter north of the city today where about 1cm snow had fallen over night. I want to buy some nice winter tires, but I want an extra set of rim so I can just switch wheels with out having to change the tires. Luckly there are TONS of Sidekicks and Trackers in around here...someone must be willing to sell me some rims.
