Title: 16v engine in 8v Kick how hard?
Post by: BigKick on November 06, 2003, 03:05:43 PM
I am new to the little rig world. Im a ford boy, but have always love running around the local orv park and watching the bad a|removethispart|@* sidekicks climbing crazy hills and rock ledges. Anyways back to the subject at hand, I just got an 89 sidekick and was wondering if it would be worth the time and effort to put a 16v motor in instead of the 8v, and if it is going to be benifical, how hard is the swap. I didnt know if all the engine plugs from the body harness were the same and it just drops in or do I have to rewire the install?

the 16v is multiport i believe and the 8v is tbi.  The 16v would have 4 injectors, more sensors and whatnot.  Changing all the wiring should not be too difficult.  Will require the 16v fuelpump as well.   I was thinking about a 16v block with a custom tbi intake or an intake adapter.  The I could use the new engine with all the old wiring.
