Post by: deepmud on October 30, 2003, 03:06:42 AM
Hello, newbie here. Saw the tracked Samurai of Dozer Don on the members rigs, but can't find Don. Any contacts here? Don? Hello?

From Bug_D:

is that your ride?if so how did u do that?

I have a set of tracks built by a guy in Maine - I have posted extensively on them on the Pirate BBS, a bit on the ORC, quite a big amount of tech on the local board here in Alaska, www.akoffroad.com (just moved to www.akfabshop.com/forum/ ) - so forgive me if the description is short:

custom tracks, don't work on anything but snow 'cause they use sliders, not Mattracks.

What I know about Don's: they seem to be the same as I have seen on rigs since the mid-70's - I don't know the original manufacturer, I don't believe it was Mattracks, though.

Here is a set on a Scout:(http://www.kyrias.com/deepmud/fc8098c9.jpg)

Here is a set on a CJ3:

Another, better shot of my tracks - not the same design by any stretch.

I got a screamin' deal on this set of one-of-kind homebuilt tracks - there are a bunch of other home-builts in Maine, not so one-of-a-kind, maybe 20 or 30 sets or more could be running around, and back when they were being built they were s'posedly $4k a set - not bad when you consider the 4 snowmachine tracks could easily be $2k by itself.
A set of the "other"tracks

well, no contact from the list moderator -  :-/

I have had a couple emails requesting more details. Tell ya' what, invest the time to check these threads, so I don't have to explain everything all over again, and then I will gladly discuss the tracks, including how I would make a new set if I were so inclined.

Ah, that's the internet for you. I have a few notifications that you posted to this thread, but no direct emails. Cyberspace  ::)

I am hoping that you have Dozer Don's email from when he sent you his pic of his rig - can you send him my info?( I wouldn't expect you to expose his email without permission).
Thanks,
Erik

This looks like something you could expect from the Red Green Show on Public Television.      ;)

Now if you can fit one big set on a tracker and have yourself a mini tank. It would be a awsome hill climber and mud bogger.Would that make it unstopable?
