I was reading through the calamini webpage and the differentials were 10 bolt rear, 12bolt rear and 10 front. Does this mean a 10 bolt chev posi would bolt right in?
-
No, the 10/12 bolt refers to how many blots attach the ring gear to the carrier, not meaning Chevy 10 bolt.

yeah, and you can sound like a redneck too when you tell other, "Yup, she's got a 12 bolt posi in the rear." LOL

LOL!..."as I beat my hand on the table" laughing

Is one of them stronger than the outher?
-
12 bolts instead of 10 would in theory be stronger,
but I think the real advantage is in the splines, the
12 bolt has more splines which is a stronger axle for
hard wheelin, big tires and low gears.
Anyone know if the side gears fit from a 12 bolt into
a 10 bolt ???
-
I think the 10 bolt came in the 93? and down trackers with the smaller spline count.
-
In Jason Hutchisons article it states that the 10 bolt rear was used up to 1992. After that its 12 bolt.

O so i must have a 12 bolt then. :)

My buddy changed his 89 automatic to 12 bolt 5.13 gears and I believe he used his old axles???
-
hummm. some one better get the right info.

10 and 12 bolt 'rearends' both have 26 spline sidegears. However, I believe the sidegears not to be interchangeable due to a series of technical opportunities I had while trying to figure out what was wrong with my rear locker I discovered that the 10 bolt bearing race for the sidegear is larger. So, when I went to put in a 'regular' locker it had slop in it which caused many broken parts and bad driving characteristics. I'm now running 12 bolt rear with Samurai LockRite, and Samurai sidegears which must have the casting flash ground off of the face in order to fit proper. A Sidekick LockRite that uses Sidekick Sidegears would be just fine too...

OK so are all the tracker rear diffs. 26 splines and the fronts 22 then switch 26 in 19??

Right, I don't know exactly when the switch was. I THINK it was when the 16 valves came in. '94-'95.. Can anyone confirm?

I have a 95 Tracker, and when I did my lift I counted my front splines and they're 22's. Also mine has a 16v motor, so I'm guessing 96 or they phased them in, in 95. That means I got short changed :(

96-98, although some 96's were built late 95.
I know this from the shiit-on-the-fly elimination on the GV, it requires the shaft and CV stub from a 96-98 1.6L Jap Made sidekick, 26 spline.
