Title: Wonderful World of Electricals
Post by: takai on May 06, 2005, 10:18:13 AM
Funny thing keeps happening on my way to work in the Morning (always at the same spot too), My dash clock and radio just stop working. Totally dead electrically. After work, I they work perfectly and the clock on both of them has lost zero time, and doesn't quit working on the way home. I have been unable to find a lose wire or a bad ground. Any ideas?   ???

The clock and radio are on the same fuse, time to look for a loose connection. That reminds me - my radio packed up so eventually I went out and bought another one, when I came to fit it it wouldn't work either. I discovered the earth wire from the radio, which was supposed to be screwed to the body by one of the centre console mounting screws wasn't attached. I now have a spare radio  ::)

I have/had (it's intermitant) this same
problem with my SideKick, you didn't say
what you were driving, but it's the fuse
under the dash, it's a little loose fitting
and looses contact. I just bent the blades
on the fuse a little and stuffed it back in,
works for a long time then it will happen
again, so I clean and replace it, problem
solved

Thanks for the advice. When I can physically crawl under my dash again I will check the fuses. BTW, anyone who tells you that falling off a raised lift gate, in the dark, onto asphalt is very, very wrong.  ;D

Check the voltage across your battery. My alternator went and started putting out 18volts, when the engine was cold nothing electical would work right, but when it warmed up everything worked fine. probably not it, but I'd check anyway
