Has anyone done a 4 speed auto conversion on the '90 3 speed Vitara(Sidekick)?
I'm trying to find if the 4speed has a lock up converter,if the 4 speed is controlled by the ECU, and if the 3 speed's drive shafts will fit with the 4 speed. How about Trans mounts?
Any advice appreciated!

My GV 4sp has a lock up, I believe (and I can hear it when it happens). It's the same tranny as in the late model Kicks.
I think Blacknight had a link to the wesbite for the tranny with specs. It's a Aisin/Werner tranny. Maybe ask him for the link.
The 4sped uses a Kick t-case, so all shafts will work. Your best best would to swap the entire motor, tranny and harness in.
That help any?

Thanks for the info, Tim.
Ideally, I'd like to swap in the whole package, but the best price I've found so far is $3,300 Aussie dollars! And that's without the loom, but with the computer.
They're asking $1150 for the trans alone.
While I'm on the subject, any idea if the rear driveshaft needs to be shortened? I understand the 4th ratio is a piggybacked Overdrive, so I'm assuming the overall trans length would be a few inches longer.
Thanks again,
Peter W.
