I'm excited.....First Flight coming up
 ÂÂ
If you followed the thread, "pics of zaggy's engine" you will have seen that I have put highly modified 1.6/8v's in both an Airboat and an Airplane.
Well just got word that the Transport Canada final inspection is due in about a week and then the Airplane can go on it's first flight.
Heres a pic of the Airplane with the 1.0L Turbo Suzuki we tested in it....I'll take some new pics of the 1.6/8v in it and post them later...
It has a different cowl now and a belly mounted rad like a P-51 Mustang.
It's going to be the fastest all terrain Suzuki on the board, heres some specs for a laugh...
- Empty weight (ready to fly, no fuel / occupants) 880lbs
- Max weight (full fuel, 2 fat guys and stuff)     1500lbs
- Fuel capacity (US gallons)                    36gal
- Take off distance                          400ft
- Landing                                 300ft
- Maximum speed (about)                   130mph
- Cruise (about)                           120mph
- Range (about)                         1000miles
- Maximum altitude (talk about a body lift)    12000 feet
Specs for the engine are on the other thread...
Talk about something different, eh!
P.S
See "Wildgoody" I like Turbos too....

No doubt, those Turbo 1.0 Sprint engines
can really move out, Hmmm that would
just about work out for that 2.0 that's
going into your wife's Kick ....... Twin Turbos
;D
-
Nah....tried that
Her words........if it don't start when I hit the key, every time, yer dead.
Don't think I would survive the developement curve.

I had to take the Kick away from my wife,
she loved the power the turbo gave it.

Similar problem
My wife used to race back when we were serious about it, even won some trophies.
But now she still wants all the jam and performance but insists on rock solid reliability, even at -35F.
Thats why the 2.0L swap instead of doing a hyped 1.6L.......more power, rock solid reliability.
But I sure thought about that Turbo thing on the 2.0L, alot, intercooled, 6-8lbs boost....I figured about 175-180 smoooooth HP. What's yer thoughts? Weigh less than a V-6, big torque.

6-8 PSI is a nice smooth increase,
I don't know what you would have to
do about fuel, but a secondary EFI,
like I run, leaves the cold start and
regular running totally stock, MS takes
up fuel need under boost, your problem
is where to find space to install the extra
injectors
;)
-
I think I've got a plan for that.......custom TPI manifold using stock injectors and sensors with room for auxillary, and it would be lighter than the stock manifold.
The tough part would be mounting it in the airplane, new mounting system and the weight and balance change...but for an extra 60-70hp and not much extra weight it may be the next aviation project.
Hey wattaya think of the Bird?

verry nice

Get me to colorado, and I can find a hill to go faster than 120mph, and be over 12000 feet.
Of course, I wouldn't survive the "landing" :)
P.S. ... probably a shorter takeoff and landing distance too :)
-
Yeah Yeah
But you have to able to do it more than, once.

AIRPLANE SUZUKI,,,,,,HECK YEAH!!!

I remember this thread from the old days. It was a surprise to see it back. Most of those guys don't post any more.

Yeah, it's a bummer too. There were some great ideas. I dug it up via a search and moved it here to this new section to help seed discussions.

I was just talking about using the 1.0 in experimental planes the other day. Wierd...

The airplane that I built that motor for is up and running. Works real well. It is a 1.3 w/ custom turbo. Maybe if we get a few more people we can have an "air race"..lol.

Just looking at the plane, and how did you get the spark plugs on that side of the engine???
Then I see it's mounted front to back, lol
