Title: tire size on sami
Post by: tracker8wr on May 06, 2005, 05:17:09 AM
ok sami guys what is the largest tire size u would run on ur sami front axle with 5.12s. i am talking about strength not proper gearing. i am going to beat the crap out of it on 35 irocs and am wondering if i should just go with yota axles and a 6.5:1 lowrange.

another seperate question would 5.12 tracker gears be good for 32 to 33" tires? this is on another sami that sees mild beach use and some rocks every once in a while. i am thinking it is good just wanted some other opinions.

Generally a 33" tire is the biggest you want to run on a sammy axle, and even then you should use birf cups or newfields.

A guy in our club runs 33x13.5 wide tsl's with 5.13's and a loc-rite and he breaks one axel a year on stock axel's rock climbing, he's going to buy the 580.00 front axel's next time, I run 33's in the snow and it's been two years no problem.

5.12's with 33's will get you about 300-400 RPM's more than stock 3.73's with factory sized tires at highway speeds.....seems to be about the perfect gearing for 33's.

I have a set of 5.12's for sale if anyone needs em   ;)
