Title: Cracked Frame at steering Box
Post by: Zukipilot on September 10, 2003, 11:01:46 PM
If you wheel much in your Kick be sure to keep a close eye on the frame just behing the steering box. I noticed a small crack in the crumpel zone about 6 months ago. When I was installing my Anvil last weekend, I noticed it had already worked it's way 2/3 up both sides of the frame :o Hey, at least it's a good excuse to go ahead with the power steering conversion I've been wanting to to :P

Any one have any good suggestions on fixing this? I was think of welding the crack, then adding some steel reinforcment n the frame before installing my steering box.

When this happened to mine I cut open the outside of the frame, then welded the cracks from the inside, added some extra re-enforcment, and then recapped it. I also plated the outside of the frame with 1/8 inch steel. Then I drilled the three bolt holes out to 1/2 inch and Installed grade 8 bolts through the plating. So far its holding up great! Zig I will e-mail a pic to you.

Thanks! I'm going to do a quick fix so I can make it to the Dixie Run the first week of October. Then I'll put it back in the shop for the reinforcement and power steering. I'm running out of time and keep adding more mods to my list of Mods.
