Title: gas mileage
Post by: trialspro on August 26, 2003, 07:56:11 PM
sorry to make 2 topics within a week of each other... but since i just bought this sidekick different questions are arising.
i was wondering if any of you know why my mileage is so bad.  im only getting roughly 180kms per tank, and thats pushing it.  for any americans not familiar with metric stuff, my friend gets 370kms on his tank.  im pretty sure its not leaking, no sign underneath
any other ideas?

Try replacing the air fliter, fuel filter, wires and plugs. It made a big difference on mine.

Maybe your catalitic converter is clogged.  You would probably notice a power loss.

O2 sensor!!! :o

I swapped my old one out when my milage went low and I was having a rich fuel smell from the exhaust, it went after 2 years......
I noticed a nicer milage improvement after that.

My gas mileage jumped about 15% when I replaced the old ignition coil with a hot coil from Accel. They get tired after about ten years. If you do this, be sure to match the new coil primary resistance with the old coil.

Also, check timing and fault codes.
