Post by: whitfield on April 27, 2005, 04:06:04 AM
Remember the 4-dr I had for sale back in October...

Well,  A good friend of mine DAVE bought it and has since made a few changes...

Is that still the stock sidekick rear end, with 36's? Is it locked or open? What gears?

I'd like to see it flexed up and turning.

Looking good!

It has open 5.38's stock as it is an 8v.  He isn't into trails or 4- wheelin.  Just wants to cruz and hit the Beach.  We have about 100 miles of beach we can drive in NC.

I warned him about 36's and stock gears but he said it is doing well as is.  He is a machinist by trade so a Sammy T-case mated behind the kick one might be an option.

Sad to see it will never hit the trails but it still looks cool.   Might get him out in the dirt one day.

Can you get some specifics on what he did to the IFS?
Title: Re: Another 4-dr on 36's

Not specifics, but in short he used pieces from another frame and dropped the stock IFS 10" ...  Sort of like Project Rockstar, but only using the donor frame's IFS cradle.  He performed a similar mod to the rear.

Not a super flexy trail modded machine, But he just likes to build and wanted to ride around on big tires.  Mainly he will be out cruzing the beach.  It will probally never see the trail or mud.

Kubota 4wd front end loader.  We've been riding Quads thru it.  40' round 6' deep.

I had a jumping contest against a Sammy in the old one.  He won,  6' legnth was all I'd push the untrussed stock daily driver Kick. We were in the Knee high range with all 4 wheels off the ground.  Doing that makes me have alot better apreciation for the pictures those RPM guys post.

It will actually Keep up and pass traffic on I-95.
5th gear isn't really useable, but in 5th it will hold speed as long as their is no up hill or head wind.   It drives on the HWY better then his old Sammy on 33 Micky's

Hope to get it in the dirt and get some close up's and flex shots soon.   I only get over their about once a month (Getting old Sux)... .   Might even have him talked into getting it in the pond (no water yet).

SHOW TRUCK  :o

I'll take that as a compliment.   A $900 4dr with a 1.6L 8v and $1000 worth of wheels and tires.  The IFS pieces from a wrecked parts truck headded to the dump and steel were free.   He has less then $2500 in the whole ride.  A show truck it is not!   It will spend many weekend and miles cruzing the beach in 4wd.   Different strokes for different folkes.

Q what is that yellow bracket (in the under body shot) hooked to the bottom of the strut?  is that some custome spacer or part of a different kind of strut? ???

i see the front end widening. holy moly. what CVs are they? widened kick ones? or generic off a maxima or ford?

i'd love to have the width of that.

EDIT: OK, i dont think i can recognise anything from the front end. seems like theres a custom cradle up front for some other front diff. Lower arm mounts seem diff to stock.
