 What's the purpose/difference...?

Looks like the lugs are taller and "nobbier" to the outside.

On the 34x9.50s I've heard of people blowing lugs worse than Monica in the Oval Office.

I have only seen them run as a space saver Spare, for guys running 35"s.

i'm running 34-9.50 and they work great.  the tread depth is unreal.  but for some reson they don't clime out of ruts as well as u think they would.  the lugs are taller and narrower the say a 15-35/15 and becouse of that they bend and rip easyer.  I think they have great road manners figering that my rear end is welded(don't get stuck ofen) :)

My two cents would be to stay away from any narrow tire on a Samurai unless you're going to stay small, say less than 30". Why? Well, I feel [I know others feel differently and thats.... OK] that there are two good reasons for not going two narrow. First, side hill offcamber situations require a solid foundation. A fat tire seems to hold it's sidewall shape better when leaning. I suppose a 34 inch tall tire on a 22 inch rim would probably be stable too. Second, and a bit more intangible is weight distribution. I feel that accentuating a vehicles attributes can lead to an advantage. So, by placing a fat tire on a Samurai the PSI of the vehicle becomes even less. Sure this will be bad in some spots but I've observed it to be a bonus in most places. For this same reason I'm a fan of putting tall pizza cutters on full size rigs. I think they work best that way.. IMHO and YMMV
