Title: Swift TBI problems on Zuke 1.3 Engine
Post by: bluezuked on August 02, 2003, 08:12:45 AM
Does anyone know what the procedure is for cleaning or replacing the injectors on a Swift TBI conversion for a 1.3 Zuke??

I'm having a lot of cutting out and hesitation problems that I think can be contributed to clogged injectors, but I don't have any idea how to clean them, other than running a fuel additive, which is not helping so far.

I started having the problems after I let the motor sit for a couple of months without being turned over.  Ever since, she's been running like crap when I try to get it over 2500 RPM.  The strange thing is, I can put it in neutral and rev it to 4000 easily without any problem, but soon as I put it under load in second gear, she just all but dies.

Also, I read somewhere that the Swift TBI doesn't use a vacuum advance unit.  Is this true??  I'm wondering because I couldn't find anywhere on the manifold to plug the hose coming from it into.  I thought that this could have something to do with it, but I'm having no luck and dying to go wheelin.

Thanks in advance guys.

This may sound silly but did you replace your fuel filter? Also, your fuel pickup in the tank may be clogged or the pump may be weak. I'm think you're running out of fuel...

I hate when a totaly unrelated thing (seemingly) throws you
off of the real problem. Sitting for 2 months with how much gas?
1/4 or less is bad, was it outside, raining, hot and cold???
you might have a water build up that clogged the filter, remove
it and blow through it to see if it is plugged up, blow in the exit
side of the filter and catch the fuel that comes out, see if you
got a water problem, or any other junk that comes out.
If it is hard to blow through, replace it, if you found water, crank
the engine with the fuel line in a bucket and flush the water/crap
out before you put a new filter on.

Hope this helps

Well, I had already pulled the fuel filter and drained the tank.  Replaced the gas with Premium and STP injector cleaner.  I hadn't thought about the fuel pump pickup, I'll check into that one.

I'm really curious as to whether or not there is a good source for info on these conversions, and what the process is for cleaning, or replacing the injectors.

When it sat, it was during the winter with a little over a half a tank a gas.

The most likely seemed to be the injector, due to the fact that it was running like a top when I shut her down.  That's what happens when you get busy with work and forget to the little things. :-[
