i just got my samurai about two weeks ago and i think that there is a prob with the trany or cluch with the motor running and the cluch not depressed the out put shaft on the trany the one going in to the t case spins and there it a grinding sound but when u push the cluch in the sound stops and the shaft does not sping i know the sound is not good but is it normal for the shaft to be spining with the cluch not depressed

First a q:
does it drive?
because I don't think that shaft should be spinning when it isn't in gear.

your front input bearing is shot.

or the throwout bearing is tuching the pressure plate a little causing it to spin. give the cable a little more slack and see if it stops .
the outpuit shaft is probably spinning becouse their is oil in it causing enough drag to spin the outpuit shaft.probably normal

yeah it drives ok and it shifts just fine too

I would bet $ on the cluster gear bearings. and yes if there is nothing on the back of the trany or the t-case is in neutral the output will spin with the engine running trany in neutral and the clutch out

This must be a common Suzuki problem.
Heard it a bunch of times on Sammys.
Even heard it once on our own Kick.
We replaced clutch components, (including the throw-out bearing) and it went away.
