8am - Meet |removethispart|@ Walleries Pizza (edgewater st.) West Salem
9am - (2nd meeting) Monmouth |removethispart|@ Chevron or Burgerville
Explore Falls City (west of Monmouth), Coastal Mountains. Many Forest roads and some challenging obstacles where roads have washed away. In a previous trip, a winch and good spotter were helpful to pass through certain spots. The goal is to reach the beach south of Lincoln City...depending on gates and road conditions. Street legal rigs only, the trip home will be on the highway. Therefore, you can't trailer your rig up there as it will be a different way home. All Suzukis are welcome. Hope to see many Mid-Valley Crawlers as well as many others too! 8)

I am asking that you guys going on this trip get your CB's working. It's so much nicer being able to communicate! 8)
-
is this going to be zuks only? ???
-
ok I gots mine working....I think
-
I've been wanting to buy a new one I guess now I have the chance 8)
jason
-
...Yep, zuks only on this one. 8)
Locjaw - GIJoes ain't too bad for CB's. Maybe Sportsman's has them. We need a better local CB supply place. Usually can get a Cobra 40 channel for around $40. Ebay has some ok cb deals, too.

Hey Jason, Remember when I's up there looking for a radio and ask you for pointers? I found a nice radio at RadShack on Lancaster but then I found what appeared to be better deals at GI JOES in Albany. That big ol' Pilot truck stop up in Brooks sucked for selection and price.

-
There is a place on lancaster right by Michaels and petco called Pats CB. The place that sells those little scooters. Now I have not been there but Val has taken 2 CB's in to be modified. He told me they were great place to deal with and good prices.
-
GI JOEs has a Midland CB for 35 bucks.

Would be cool if you could. Gonna be perfect weather they said. Like 70 degrees. 8)
-
If you guys are looking for cheap CB's you should check out Fry's Electronics in Oregon. should have the Midland 1000 for around $20

If we find enough fun obstacles and sweet views we'll definitely go back in the future ;D . Over a year ago, we saw and did some great trails & scenery and that's the reason we're headed back this time.
I was getting ready to suggest camping this time, but the latest forecast shows rain sat & sun ??? . Well, if it does rain, it will be less dusty. 8)
-
Ok Keith let me borrow a top but Eric, if you could bring that freebie I would appreciate it. Looks like we may have a little rain but warm weather.

A little rain? We're talking alot of rain, almost stormie :o
In thoery, if all goes well tonite, I'll see ya in the morning.
My stupid front diff skid plate is bent out of wack. I wounder how that happened ??? ;D
Great. I gotta find the pizza place again and wake up early on a weekend. :o
I don't have anybody riding shotgun, so if someone is crowded or needs a ride. let me know.
What CB channel will ya all be running on?
I'll turn mine on when i hit Salem incase I get last. again
Or I may just run to the BurgerVille in Monmouth off Hwy 99 (the only one, right?).
Only takes an Hour to get there and the extra time will do me good.
Okay, My Lil Bro May be going with me. But I won't know for sure till morning.
-

Probley meet ya in Monmouth. This way I don't have to hit the road at 6 am :o
It's actually closer than the piza place.
-
And now we're back.
Great trip and glad I didn't miss out.
Note to self. Bring 5gal spare gas can and not 2gal spare.
If I didn't already have a Kick, I'd want a Sammie.

Sry I have been caring for a sick wife. She was a little sick before going on this trip but the rain and cold weather made her alot worse. I had alot of fun exploring the backroads of the coast range with everyone. Even though our "mission" was a faluire. Here are a few pics for ya.

Oh and a BIG thank you to Keith Black for the use of the top.
-
Awsome pics.
Are we gonna see someone squeezing between some trees? ;) ;D
-
I too had a great time. I can't believe that gates have been installed or permanently locked between Falls City and the beach - what a shame. Six years ago there were multiple ways to get through and now there are none. Thanks to all who attended - it was fun! I need a GPS so bad. Thanks again Eric for bringing that! Gotta love that image of me on the bridge stuck...it looked like fun to drive in the holes but they turned out larger than they looked!
Well, I'll try to post some pics soon... Not sure exactly how to? Any help?? Looks like I have to upload them on another site and then link them???
-

Glad you all had fun ;D. We'll do some more scouting up there and see if we can find a round trip that'll avoid closed gates and maybe get us to the beach so we can actually get our clam chowder! Jason, you should come on a scouting run up there and not miss out next time!! ;)
-
Count Me In ;D
-
good job davey, lol! who owns the little grey zuk? wish i could of gone if my sami wasnt on blocks! :'(
-
I think you're talking about Bewley's Olive Drab Sami...? Looks kinda grey in the pics.
-
Bwahahahhah! it looks like I ran this thing over and am all proud about it.
-
I wont miss it next time "period" (unless my wife says so) ;D
jason
-
You better not miss out next time! 8)
I already have some plans for the next scouting run. We'll need winches and lockers on all rigs, a gps or two, and good maps.
I've plotted everywhere we travelled on a map and I can't believe what I'm seeing! I gotta show you guys so you know what I mean. I think we can get into the north route afterall. But, worse case, we're gonna have to cross one of those rotten bridges or deep river crossing, or washed-out trail travelling - it will be interesting! ;D
Lets talk at the next MVC meeting!
-
Bwahahahhah! it looks like I ran this thing over and am all proud about it.
But it sounded better than a Ricer ;D
-
so what are you saying, do i need to start making a snorkel for my rig?
jason
-
so what are you saying, do i need to start making a snorkel for my rig?
jason
Of course not, It really did sound good. Almost racie ;D
Ya must've picked up some extra Hp too ;) :D
-
Count me out if youre going to cross that bridge. I have no death wish at the moment.
-
who was the brave soul who ventured across that mush to take the pic? :o
jason
-
what you cant see jason is that its about 20 ft above the creek. It was davey BTW
-
It could be crossed. And by my maps, it's only about a 1/2 mile past the bridge and you're on the north route!!!! It could be crossed with some work, i know it could. Its the last 15 ft that's kinda spooky. The next exploration will push the limits - trust me. 8)
-

This Coming from ;D
(http://www.sierrarockcrawlers.com/albums/igbanners/davey_stuck.jpg)
Come on Greg, I cant see why you would not follow him across the bridge ::)
Zig
-
The wood was spongy enough on that bridge that you had to be careful where you walked! Sorry having a family has made me not want to push the limits anymore. :P
-
we could winch through that (and stay alive, greg) I am all for it. how wide and deep was the creek? do we need underwater breathing aparatus's?
lets doit !!
jason
-
Well, I don't want to have to pressure anyone on the next trip so, if you feel its not what you're looking for, don't feel pressured to attend. So far, GreggyPooh, Hoff, Val, and Eric are interested in a push-the limits extreme run so that'll be a large enough group for me. ;) It's all good.
-
Ive honestly never had a problem following you davey(as far as being scared) but that bridge was nuts man. I am probably pushing it to go on another trip like that very soon anyway. I got too much going on this year.
-
That's cool man - I don't like putting lives in danger... :o I'd rather risk a deep river crossing than a failing bridge anyday! ;D
Plus, I'd like to explore some of the "spur" roads we passed - lots of them looked interesting... 8)
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I walked the bridge and It wasn't really firm.
Not that I'm too busy but my Kick weighs Twice as much as a Sammie. :o
rebuild the bridge?
